All month long, people have been eagerly waiting to see what new titles would be coming to Netflix. How do you top season 2 of House of the Dragon? Turns out, you don't, at least according to HBO and Max, which just released their lackluster August 2024 programming schedule. There's not a lot of compelling new content to watch this month unless you're a big fan of Maine Cabin Masters.

August is typically a quiet month for the entertainment industry, but Netflix didn't get that memo. The popular streamer has stacked its schedule for the month with enough original new series, returning fan favorites, and compelling licensed content to keep you glued to your television.

One big highlight that streams right at the beginning of the month is A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, a BBC co-production that stars Wednesday's Emma Myers. Other notable premieres include Lee Daniels' new film The Deliverance, the teen comedy Incoming, and new seasons of Emily in Paris and The Umbrella Academy.

It's the summer on Netflix, meaning several blockbusters are coming to the streaming service. The beginning of the month marked the arrival of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the fourth film in Eddie Murphy's action comedy franchise. Another new legacy sequel on Netflix is Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the fifth film in the Ghostbusters franchise.

These two massive titles will remain on Netflix for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, several movies will be departing the streamer at the end of the month. There are only a few days left in July, so watch these five movies before it's too late. Our picks include two terrific sports dramas and a hysterical romantic comedy.

The 2019 Drama Desk winner for Best Solo Show, Mike Birbiglia: The New One, is now streaming on Netflix. The performance was filmed on Broadway last season during its limited engagement at the Cort Theatre.

The play by Birbiglia, with additional writing by Jennifer Hope Stein and directed by Seth Barrish, debuted Off-Broadway in 2018 in an extended, sold-out run. The show follows the comedian as he struggles with the decision of becoming a parent or not.

If you thought the 2022 Netflix movie releases made that year a particularly big one for the streaming platform, you would be right. Many of 2022's exclusive, feature-length releases ended up becoming some of the top trending titles on Netflix and were praised as some of the best movies released in 2022, whether or not they made it to the big screen. However, the year 2023 was just as big for the platform.

In July 2023, audiences could check out Jamie Foxx, John Boyega, and Teyonah Parris in the sci-fi comedy, They Cloned Tyrone and a spin-off of the platform's hit horror flick, Bird Box, called Bird Box: Barcelona.

More than two decades since the original, the stop-motion animated sequel Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget -- starring Zachary Levi as Rocky this time -- came out as a Netflix exclusive and Zack Snyder took to the stars for the space epic Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire in December 2023.
