Monster Shooter is a third person action game in which you control a monster bounty hunter on an adventure to rescue his kitten, on which you will face endless hordes of monsters from other planets.

During the more than fifty missions that make up the game, set on three completely different planets, your quirky hero will have to deal with hundreds of different enemies, which shall try to end his life. Fortunately, you have available a lot of different weapons and abilities that you can use to win and increase the level of your character.

Even gurning, gun-toting monsters have their softer sides. Just ask Dum Dum, the hero of Monster Shooter, who stamps through 60 alien-infested levels reducing anything in his way to viscera and goop after his beloved kitten is abducted. Though we're sure any answer you might get would involve more firearms than words.

It can feel a bit awkward to use just four buttons to aim 360 degrees around you, but thankfully there's automatic aim assist that alleviates this problem to some extent. It's not perfect, however: sometimes it doesn't feel as if you're in full control, as if the game is taking over and slaying the enemies for you. You can hit A to fire right, but from there the auto-aim will take over and choose which foe to target, for example. It's a shame there's no touch screen aiming, which would be ideal for this sort of game.

It's a simple set up on the whole, which both helps and hinders Gamelion's shooter. It's very easy to get into and as such it's one of those games that you can quickly bust out for a mindless blast. On the other hand, it's incredibly repetitive. The style very rarely changes throughout the five hour long campaign: you shoot, then you shoot some more and finish up with a little shooting. There's not much mechanically wrong, but as most levels' layouts and objectives are extremely similar or identical, with only the odd new enemy added every so often to spice things up, it becomes tiresome. There's a frustrating moment that hints at bigger threats, and thus possible changes, that never actually materialise.

It looks fairly good: its appealing characters look as if they've fallen off a cereal box and into the world of Super Pokmon Rumble. There are funny touches in the backgrounds, such as none-too-healthy killer whales on the surface of the moon. Sadly there's not much in the way of 3D effect: some parts of the ground stick up a little, and the user interface floats above the action, but that's about it. The lack of the effect in the short CG cutscenes is particularly disappointing.

Its a port of an iOS game which use an "emulated" touch analogue stick (as many iOS games do) which is horribly untactile. Also, u get something like 40 levels free and another 80 "lost levels" for 1.99! Still, I think this may control better in comparison, I don't know

Actually tried it on android, but found it unplayable thanks to the frustating touch analog stick. Felt a relief by playing the 3ds version with the circle pad, so yes it controls around 100 times better in comparison, but that's really no surprise. This is a fun little top down blaster, with pretty visuals. Sadly you can't take the aim assistant off, meaning you feel the computer are doing half the job . The 4 shoot buttons I feel is a little unnecessary, why not just have 1 and shoot in the direction the character is facing, like in the good old joystick days? Hopefully a little game patch soon will correct these obviously mistakes or am I dreaming?

i cant understand why this isnt 10/10. graphics are gorgeous. its fun as hell blasting aliens, and the unlockables and weapon upgrades makes it almost impossible to tear your self away, just one....more....game....

This game is awesome. Just picked me up a copy at the bargain price of $ 1.99! Its very satisfying blasting aliens. I wish they would've made the blood red tho'. It is addictive. Go get this game if you like shooters.

Some aliens just can't leave well enough alone. First they're stealing kittens, next they're trying to destroy the Earth. Good thing there are diligent (and angry) monsters out there who aren't afraid to blast those invader jerks with all manner of ordinance! Enter Monster Shooter 2: Back to Earth, Gamelion's latest and greatest refinement of their twin-stick frag fest.

Much of Monster Shooter 2 feels familiar, but that's not really a bad thing. It's also not just a carbon copy of the original. It looks a little better, plays a little smoother, and feels more refined all-around. Regardless it's quite a bit of chaotic and violent fun. In addition to the regular missions there are also Survival and Endless modes for whenever players are hit with an insatiable bloodlust. The co-op mode isn't exactly a game-changer, but it's a perfectly nice way to spend some time killing alien tentacle monsters and hasn't affected the balance at all for solo play. I also love how the in-game perk system that lets players choose from a number of random skills and abilities for the duration of the level has made a return.

Fans of the first game should absolutely consider upgrading to Monster Shooter 2: Back to Earth, and newcomers shouldn't have any trouble jumping right in without any prior experience or knowledge. It may not feel quite as important since an adorable kitty's freedom is no longer at stake, but it's every bit as much fun. Perhaps even more so.

Monster Shooter tells the story of alien battles from one planet to another, all with the ultimate goal of saving a kitten with a runny nose. These naughty aliens want to wreak havoc and torture the poor kitty, and are even traveling anywhere in the galaxy as to not be captured.

Even more interesting than the power-ups you can buy are the abilities you can only earn by leveling up, which range from a higher fire rate, more damage, or more cash dropped by enemies. These abilities are fantastic and can help out greatly while playing, but the way of unlocking them could use some work. The problem is that you can only unlock them while playing the game, meaning you have to stop mid-level, potentially costing you precious health or combo momentum.

Where Monster Shooter: The Lost Levels differentiates itself from other shooters on iOS is in its tight control, and cartoonish graphical style. The animation is fluid, and each planet has a distinct look to keep things fresh. Being on both iPad and iPhone as a universal app also helps, as the larger screen of an iPad lends itself well for keeping track of enemies, and a larger d-pad area for better control.

Packing in over 60 levels across 3 distinct planets, Monster Shooter is likely to hold on to your attention for quite a while. This is not even including the endless survival mode, which could potentially last you forever. Adding even more to the longevity are the in-game side missions (of Jetpack Joyride (Free) fame) that you can complete along your path of destruction. Game Center achievements and leaderboards should be standard fare by now, and are included.
