soi got the logitech x530 speakers a few days ago, and i plugged them all in and everything, plugged the inputs into the color-coded plugs on my pc, and turned on the music and only the front right and front left speakers play any sound. the sub works also, but im concerned about the speakers.
i went to the back of my pc and switched the plugins and now the rear right/left speakers work, but no sound out of the others. so i switch them again, and only the center speaker works. No matter what combination i do, they never ALL work at the same time.
You can't get surround sound from stereo inputs. Sure, you can upconvert the sound and send the front right and left to your rear right and left, but it's going to take balance away from the sound you're hearing. If you care about sound quality, you'd leave it as is. I have the z-5300's and let stereo sound only play out the fronts. It's just better for the sound quality.
most music is only in "stereo" - in order to listen to it in a true "surround" format you need to have the hardware that can handle SACD, or DVDaudio - being that both of these formats never took off, there isnt a wide selection - but it is nothing more than listening to the music from all over - it wasnt that great of an upgrade - I tried it when I first got this sound card, and wasnt impressed and havent bought DVDaudio since....
There really isn't a "problem" here. Everything is functioning as it was designed. You shouldn't have bought 5.1 if you simply wanted louder speakers. They're 5.1 for DVDs, games and other surround content.
I have these, only have the two speakers plugged in, and it works a charm. Only thing I don't like compared to the Z range for Logitech is the fact that there is no remote, which I find really irritating, as the cable for the speaker with the controls is shorter than I would like, and there is no way of extending it easily.
On paper doesn't mean much when it comes to audio gear (watts, response range, whatever else... you really can't tell how good a speaker is from the stats).
AL speakers are one of the best sounding in the sub $100 range. Some people have some negative things to say about it, but for under $100, you can't really get a "hi-fidelity" sound. It's only $13 more than the x230, and I can promise you that the sub sounds much better than the x530 one as far as clarity goes.
i've tried the vs4121's, their are better than the x230/530 in terms of clarity etc. Just make sure your desk isn't covered by a cloth due to their downward firing speaker design. Also, they may have this annoying hum. Some people don't have it/hear it, some people do (less people do.)
but stock wise they r bit dodgy. went there today n they were sold out on X230(n X530 and Altec Lansing) so just ended up with Creative SBS A200. i got rid of my LS21 already(hated the dual wired remote) so i'm happy.
