The Tarascon Confederation reports that the star-liner T.C.S. Alamein has been lost in space while traveling between the Endiku and 3938 Noctae systems.  While Confederate representatives reported that it would be premature to speculate regarding causes of the loss or possible casualties, industry experts state that the chances of survival in this area of space under unknown circumstances are "marginal."

The ship was reported lost within two parsecs of the Zarbe Industrial Complex, a asteroid mining and processing facility long-rumored to have connections to organized criminals and pirate gangs.  When asked if nearby mineral deposits or other nefarious motives might have induced an attack by rogue actors, Confederate representatives replied, "no comment at this time."

Sources report that the Tarascon merchant marine has long been suspected of carrying high-value contraband through international space.  If true, analysts agree that the Alamein's cargo, whatever it may have been, may have precipitated an attack.

Olympus was the first outside power to respond, declaring their intention to "maintain the security of international space lanes for all travelers."  When asked if an incursion was being planned, Cmdr. Rone Phillee of the Olympus Patrol Forces replied, "all military options are being considered to maintain regional stability."
