I created this map awhile back for some back story for another project.  We could use a cleaned up version of this for back story and such if you guys are interested.

Something like this would work. I still like the idea of overlaying it on the Milky Way map myself, as to tie it to our history and galaxy a bit.

I think that would be possible.  Let me take a look at the Milky Way again and find some reference points that could make that work.
