Hi All,

I have a Sunfire 240 / with Single AIT-3 tape machine backing up 13
clients. The system has been running fine until recently, now I'm
getting the following message:

"media waiting backup to pool 'Default' waiting for 1 writable
backup tape or disk"

My setup is fairly simple, I have Daily and Full backups, when I want
to switch from a Daily to a Full I will deactivate the Dailies pool and
activate the Full pool and swap from a Daily tape to Full tapes. All
was working well but now the error above.

The Legato Networker 7.2 Admin Guide has this burp:

======================================================
Default Pool
If the save stream does not match the criteria for any custom
(user-created)
pools, the NetWorker server directs the save stream to the Default
pool. Even
when you use customized pools or other preconfigured pools, always
ensure
that appropriate storage devices and media are available for the
Default pool
for those cases when the NetWorker server directs save streams there.
If you
do not have the Default pools properly configured for backup, you may
receive an error message like the following in the Pending window:
media waiting (or critical): backup to pool 'Default'
waiting for 1 writable backup tape or disk
=======================================================

Well I can not find out what would be causing it,

Any Ideas Greatly Appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

As you have discovered, Default is the catchall group NetWorker provides as a backup destiniation. You haven't really included enough information here for us to really diagnose the issue.  I can tell you some common places to look though.

Have you checked your pool associations?  Insure that the destination pools for your Daily and Full backups have the correct groups selected in their pool definitions. If the groups have become unchecked within the pool, this means your group then will save to default.

conversely, have you checked your selection criteria for an inadvertently selected "Levels" or Device box. You could also have put junk in the clients or savesets fields.

Check these things.  Usually these reasons cover most occurrences of this problem.  there are others, but i forget what they are right now :-)

I think most of them have to do with modules like PowerSnap.
