Wrapping it Up!
This week, our Sunday morning class groups completed their series on HABITS-disciplines that can help our students grow spiritually on their own. This was also our last official "lesson" of the school year. Looking at the life of Moses, we read in Exodus 17:8-13 about a time two friends sustained him during a battle, allowing Israel to succeed. We discussed the value of friends and the role they can play by knowing about our lives and being involved in our lives.
I'd encourage you to take some time this week over a meal or while driving to ask about your student's friends and what role they're playing in your teenager's spiritual growth. Share about your own journey with friends. Have you had friends in the past that could speak freely into your life? Do you have friends who do that now? What have you learned about developing such friendships? Here are some questions you could use to launch the conversation with your teenager:
- When has it been necessary for you to get involved in another person's life to intervene in a bad situation? When is it best to get involved, and when is it best to just mind your own business? Why?
- How often do you and your friends talk about God away from church and small group? It's easy to live our lives in "compartments"-how does your faith in God spill over into every aspect of your life?
- What's the biggest sacrifice you've ever made for a friend? What's the biggest sacrifice a friend has made for you?
I'm praying that your teen will continue to develop healthy, Christ-like friendships in our student ministry! Have an awesome week!
