So why are so many self-described socialists still adamant that their fellow workers, community members, friends and family aren't ready to hear about socialism?

Why do so many still think that so many folks will be so turned off by the words socialism or socialist, that they won't give a socialist position a hearing? (See below article and attachment re new Gallup Poll.)

Why do so many self-described socialist still think they can only approach mass work with some progressive populist language (i.e. free public education) without once mentioning it's origins as a socialist proposed reform and its importance as a corner stone for building socialism.

More importantly, why are a whole host of important socialist positions still rarely voiced by self-described socialists including: nationalizing the oil companies; nationalizing the banks;
a wealth tax on the rich and super rich (not just income tax, but a tax on net worth); a foreign policy based on internationlism rather than imperialism; and many others?

Just asking.

In solidarity,
Jonathan

Democrats, Republicans Diverge on Capitalism, Federal Gov't
Little difference on small business, free enterprise, entrepreneurs

PRINCETON, NJ -- Exemplifying a major partisan divide in modern politics, Democrats react significantly more positively to the term "federal government" than they do to the term "capitalism," while the opposite is true for Republicans. But both Democrats and Republicans are highly positive about the terms "small business," "free enterprise," and "entrepreneurs."
