Greetings comrade Manuel! :)

We re-published Moore's campaign announcement. I was thinking, perhaps
you might be interested in serving as a correspondent/analyst for the
duration of this campaign so that we have someone "outside of the lab"
(so to speak) evaluating SA's "experiment"?

During the Sawant campaign, I developed a tight relationship with one
of their new-ish members in Seattle who is a pretty independent-minded
type and really dug my Occupy/another socialist left is possible
analysis. It gave me a window into SA's strengths and weaknesses, and
I'm hoping you might be able to do that for North Star readers who
desperately want to see a new, better left emerge but don't really
know how to make that happen. I think this will be another opportunity
to get the ISO to do the right thing as well, depending on how SA/NS
handles this.

Let me know if covering the campaign both in terms of news but more
importantly in terms of analysis/lessons/assessments for North Star is
something that interests you. Also, since you have experience in
running for office, that would be a huge asset in teasing out how
elections can play a role in laying the foundation for a more united,
comradely red left.

Hi Binh,

I'm a long-time admirer of your stuff and think you are doing good. I'm based in Seattle and although I didn't have anything to do with the Sawant Campaign, I would like o connect with the people in it whom you found particularly responsive to the broad left unity question. Send me a name or two and I'll see what i can do.

Thanks,

David McDonald

PS I have oodles of not-great experience in the left going back to 1970, including a decade in the SWP and I agree with your analysis of Leninism (as practiced by the sects, having gone through it. Most recently I was pretty active in the antiwar Iraq stuff until it died down. Being at that point a non-party guy and wanting a seat at the table, I volunteered to organize the mass fundraising and developed a reputation for that sort of thing. At least I got to vote.
