Left Swingers: Tournament Week Info (Important Read)

Hey everyone - welcome to the final week of House Softball for 2025. Crazy that we are here. It feels like the summer/season just started!

After going 9-1 in the regular season we finished as the overall #3 seed out of the 62 teams that played games this year.

This means we get the honor and privilege of playing our first game at 1pm EST, something very unusual for our team but something I hope we can get accustomed to.

As we turn the page on the regular season and look towards the tournament this weekend there are some rule changes (all listed here) that everyone should be aware of before the tournament starts:

1. Balls and strikes exist. There will be no strike mat like most are accustomed to. Everything will be at the umpire's discretion.

2. We cannot have an unlimited person lineup. The max lineup a team can play at one time is 11 - 10 fielders and 1 Extra Hitter. The Extra Hitter must be used or not used at the beginning of the game and cannot be added/removed throughout.

This is a unique change to how our regular season games are played but I will try to get everyone playing time early and often in our first games and then go from there as we hopefully move through the tournament towards the Championship game.

3. No metal cleats. You will be ejected from the game.

4. If a male batter preceding a female batter is walked on the first three pitches, the male batter is awarded second base in all cases. The female must then bat. However, if there are two outs, the female batter has the option to take first base by indicating so to the home plate umpire or hit away. In all cases, when the male batter is awarded second base, he must touch first base on his way to 2nd base.

These are the most important of the rules for everyone to know - I am responsible for knowing the others but welcome any and all to memorize them with me.

I know this is a long email but we have a couple of games/practices preceding the tournament to make sure everyone knows about.

First - A scrimmage with #8 Channel 4 New Team on Thursday, September 11th at 630pm at West Potomac Park Field #6.

I will be testing out some lineups and defensive arrangements during this game.

Second - Batting Practice before the tournament on Saturday the 13th at Anacostia Park at 10am. Something to help everyone get loose and prepped before we play game 1 at 1pm!
