TabethaI am assuming you are talking about the windows home screen. Try to start your Windows computer into safe mode "To get into the Windows Vista and Windows 7 Safe Mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu." Hope this helps, good luck.

I agree with oldturkey03. It also sounds like it could be the "Blue Screen of Death" or BSOD that many laptops get when there is something wrong. If this is the case, you would not be able to boot in to Safe Mode. Every BSOD gives an error message number which then has to be looked up to determine the exact issue. If you happen to know what the error message is, One of us could let you know more specifically what is wrong with your computer. It could be the hard drive failed or even that the Windows OS just got corrupted.
