October 9th LPN Social: Wild food, foraging and mushroom identificat

Posted by: "Toby" tobyr...@hotmail.com   geo8tjnr

This month Leeds Permaculture Network will be on an adventure into wild food and the wonderful world of foraging. We have a talk on foraging through the year and a hands on mushroom identification workshop from Mina Said-Allsopp who also runs wild food walks in Leeds. (http://msitu.co.uk/)

As usual we're going to be the Common Room at Leeds University Union (directions below).
Wednesday the 9th of October

Shared food from 6pm (you get extra kudos if it's foraged, especially if it's also tasty!) and the talk and workshop will begin at 7 and end around 9pm.

DIRECTIONS

Leeds University Union, Lifton Place, Leeds LS2 9JZ

To find the common room: Go into the main entrance to the Union on Lifton Place, walk towards the back of the building and then go downstairs, and head towards the right. If you're not sure - ask at the info desk - on the right on your way into the union

Bus: number 1, 95, 6, 56, towards Headingley. Get off at the Parkinson Steps. There is a map of the campus by the main entrance.

Walking/Cycling From the station:

Leeds University is a 20 minute walk from Leeds city station.Come out of the station into City square; with the Queens Hotel behind you, walk straight up Park Row. Continue up Park Row until the first major junction. Cross straight over The Headrow and continue up Cookridge Street. At the next set of lights go straight on passing Millennium Square on your left and Leeds City Museum on your right.

Turn left on to Woodhouse Lane, a busy main road. You'll pass Leeds Metropolitan University on your left and our University campus begins in another 50 metres or so, on your left.

Car

From the centre of town go towards Headingley on A660 Woodhouse Lane. Go past the main entrance to the University and turn left by the Library pub, onto Clarendon Road. You can park in this area, some of the parking restrictions do not apply in the evening

Film on Bees at Skelton Grange

More Than Honey film screening Wednesday 16th October at 7.30pm: [1]

Beautifully filmed and directed by Oscar nominated Markus Imhoof, this
film brings sharply into focus our current bee crisis where numerous
colonies of bees have been decimated throughout the world. More Than
Honey is the provocative yet touching tale of what may happen if our
bees become extinct. Fifty years ago, Einstein had already insisted on
the symbiotic relationship binding these pollen gatherers to mankind:
"If bees were to disappear from the globe," he predicted, "mankind would
only have 4 years left to live."

tickets www.tcv.org.org/skeltongrange FREE Refreshments and donations
on the night.
