Please share these job opportunities with your friends and networks:

Leeds University Union is proud to be launching one of the 25 projects funded by the NUS Green Fund in partnership with Leeds University. The Leeds Green Exchange is a transformative sustainability project, which will create a huge increase in pro-environmental behaviours at Leeds and in the local community.

Edible Exchange Assistant:

Part time - 14 hours per week

Fixed Term contract until end of July 2015

£6.96 per hour plus holiday pay

This role is to be working on the Bardon Grange project. We are a community food growing project that gives students, staff, and other members of the local community the opportunity to grow organic food in a communal growing space. Our main site is an old walled garden at Bardon Grange (within the grounds of Oxley halls of residence), in far Headingley, but we now have some new growing spaces on campus, and plans to develop a roof garden on the Union as well.

We grow lots of organic fruit and veg in the garden, support and teach people how to grow their own, and also sell lots of plants and produce to help fund the project, and to encourage people to grow and eat locally produced food. We have weekly gardening sessions and a programme of workshops and events to help people learn more about sustainable food production, gain new skills, and enjoy the good life!

We will start by exploring food charts, food strategies and food policy councils which are recently being set up across the UK (for example in Bristol, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Brighton) and will then discuss what benefits and opportunities these initiatives brings to start working towards sustainable food provision, and how we can create a strategy that fits with Leeds' priorities and needs.
