There are still places available on the Forest Garden course taking place at
Old Sleningford Farm, near Ripon on Saturday 7th September.
This one day course is an introduction to growing fruit, herbs, salads,
vegetables and nuts in a highly productive but potentially low maintenance
planting scheme. By the end of the day, participants will have a basic
understanding of the principles of an Edible Woodland, also known as a
Forest Garden.
Old Sleningford Farm has an 9 year old Forest Garden which has been planted
in stages and some is still to be planted.
Who will benefit from the course?
Anyone who would like to grow their own food with minimal input will be
interested in this course. No previous knowledge is required and the content
of the day will be pitched at the level of the participants existing
gardening experience.
An edible woodland can be created from new, or from an existing planting -
an orchard for example. You don’t need a huge amount of space either - a
‘forest’ can be created with just a few trees or hundreds.
What will be covered?
What is a Forest Garden?
Basic design of a Forest Garden
Choosing plants and trees
Potential yields
Maintenance once the planting has been done
The course will be a mix of classroom and outdoor sessions with plenty of
discussion and question time. We will visit the Forest Garden, whatever the
weather!
£45 per person which includes lunch and refreshments. 9.30am until 4pm but
if you would like to look around the rest of the farm please allow extra
time at the end of the day.
