DarkRoom updates :
HI all, we have some Dark room updates
Firstly, Stellar has done some great work and made some storage for members to store their darkroom paper in the dark room, with priority going to members without a member's storage box. This also includes a Cubby of shame! For anyone who has left unlabeled negatives, etc in the darkroom.
Chemical updates :
We are making some changes to how we use and dispose of some of the dark room chemistry.
Fix : film negatives
To help reduce chemical waste that we need to store in the darkroom we are bringing in a way we can reuse the Fix - Stephen S has kindly written up a document (please see attched document ) for this inspired by his home developing so it has been tried and tested, furthermore he has altered the process from his home method to further decrease the chances of underfixing. If you have any concerns or questions regarding the new process or would like to be shown how to do it, please let us know on this email thread or the darkroom slack channel.
Fix Printing Paper : same as before we reuse until it expires.
Stop: Film negatives & Printing paper
We have had a look at the chemicals in Ilford's Stop with the directors, as well as talking to the School of Fine Art at the University of Leeds. The result is that the Ilford stop is safe once used (either one shot for film negatives or after repeated use for photo printing ) to be disposed of down the sink in the darkroom. Please note this applies to the stop only. The developer still need to go into the waste disposal containers, as does the fix when replenished / used up after photo printing.
As a result, I need to rewrite part of the induction for the people waiting for an induction, I hope to offer dates by this weekend for the following week.
