Good Afternoon fellow Hackspaces!
I have been keeping the RAF Leeming Makerspace ticking over for the past couple years but we are currently having a bit of a restart with a fresh committee and recruitment drive.
Unfortunately, we are only open to Service members every Thursday (and hopefully their families later down the line) but I would love to see if there was anything we can do together even if that is just a visit.
I will be posted out of Leeming in a few months and will be handing over but I take a personal interest in the group and will likely set up a similar thing if numbers allow at my next location.
Are you aware of a network of Hackspaces/Makerspaces? We have been looking internally until now but I'm keen to see how the rest of the world do things!
I would be happy to facilitate a visit to our modest Leeming makerspace before I leave if there is interest but capacity in my role would limit that to a single event for any interested groups, after that the committee can look into individual visits if you
welcome them (Some nationality restrictions would apply unfortunately).
It's a small team and hard work to keep running as I'm sure you are all aware of, but it does go through periods of activity where the Innovation Hub is buzzing and there is brainstorming energy in the air and I love that.
We are lucky to have some potential resource streams but I'd say we are locked out of as many as we benefit from and the RAF's rules and regs mean we can't always get the machines we would like.
If these emails make contact I will follow up with some pics and details of some little projects we have on. It's primarily a place for people to enjoy out of work but there are links to small projects that support Defence and will be something that will be
extended across some other Stations.
If you can help signpost to anything that would help the team take this all the way please do reach out.
Kind regards,
Richie
