Hi,

Anyone any experince using LIDAR?

I've been looking the Garmin LIDAR-Lite v4 LED – Distance Measurement Sensor & am wondering what the beam spread is. I need to take distance measurement over 1m down a tube with a 12cm diameter. The tube is also lined with LEDs whic might be an issue with the above LIDAR.

I initially tried a ultrasonic sensor but the beam cone was about ~16 degrees so it hit the tube wall after about 12cm.

Would LIDAR work in this situation?

In the Garmin specs it says:
  • Beam divergence: 4.77°

If that means what I think it does, for a 12cm diameter tube, the beam would hit the edge at 71.9cm (ish)

    (based on a rough sketch)

What's at the other end of the tube?
I'm wondering if a laser-dot range finder would work?

Thanks Andy, for the life of me I couldn't find that info when I was looking. I think that will work as the end of the tube is fluted,

Fligg, funny you should say that I've just ordered a TOF10120  Laser Range Sensor Module as its £10 as opposed to £50 for the LIDAR.
