Hi there,

A project I may be starting would be made much easier with use of a laser cutter. I was wondering if it's possible for non members to use the one at the hackspace and what charges would be associated? Also, what sort of materials are suitable on it, along with size and thickness.

Thanks for any info,

Martin.

Not directly, but if you ask nicely I expect you can find a qualified member
willing to do stuff on your behalf. Laser time is charged at £2 for
10 minutes (i.e. £12/hour), not including raw materials.

To a first approximation it cuts MDF, plywood and acrylic (Perspex) up to 8mm
thick. It does not cut metal or vinyl. Cutting area is approximately A4
(300x210mm).

THe HPC laser website claims 8mm, though it's possible that in practice the
limit is 6mm. I don't think we've ever cut anything >3mm. Even then there's a
noticable taper.
