Thermal/IR imaging

Trying to work out the cause of the heat loss in my attic, I was wondering about hiring a thermal imaging camera but they're silly money, even to hire for a day. 

So I looked around for alternatives and came across this: https://www.howtogeek.com/heres-how-i-shoot-infrared-photographs-on-my-smartphone/ It claims to do basic IR/thermal imaging to the detail I need just using a phone camera and an IR filter.

Has anyone (Samson/Nav?) tried this and does the space have the appropriate filter I could borrow for a day?

I saw a usb-c camera that plugs on bottom of a phone a while ago from a no-nanw chinese brand, might be worth  look.

now i've had a closer look at the google results, some of them are
actually in london... i hate it when i specifically put a town or city
and google shows me results for another city 100's of miles away.

one of the sites i saw for leeds was : https://hygglo.com/
they seem to be a general site where people rent out their own equipment,
there were a few people offering thermal cameras for around £15 a day in
the leeds area when i looked before.

I also saw https://yorkcommunityenergy.org.uk/
which hires them out for £40 a week, but only for residents of york, or
people within 20 miles of york,
