Hi,

So, I've been dabbling in some snooker cue making so I'm mainly interested in getting some time at the metal lathe for tapering blanks and fitting joints/ferrules wanted to ask a few questions first

I don't see any rules for turning wood on it, would it be the same rules as sanding/grinding making sure to cover the ways and cleaning after use?
If that's the case could I ask what the through bore size is and the between centre capacity?

Looks like an amazing workspace, hopefully I'll be down for one of the open days some time soon

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the interest in the lathe(s). The metal lathe is only to be used for turning metal parts. We do also have a separate wooden turning lathe.

Like most of the more complicated or dangerous  machines at the hackspace each of these lathes requires an induction session before it can be used.

And this is where we run into a problem. Right now we don't have people around who are able to do inductions on either lathe.

We have someone actively  working on getting to a point where they are comfortable running inductions for the wood turning lathe & I am trying to work out how we can do the same for the metal lathe.

As soon as we are able to get inductions running I will be letting folks know, both through this list and the slack/irc channels.

Cheers
Nick
