Subject: Present at the Open Hardware Summit 2025

Hello!

I am writing to you today because I think you and your community would be interested in the Open Hardware Summit happening in Edinburgh next spring, which will be in Edinburgh May 30/31. We're currently accepting talks, workshops, exhibitions, artworks, or performances broadly on the subject of Open Source Hardware, sharing, making, DIY, creative tech, HCI, open medical or science devices and more.

The Open Hardware Summit is an international gathering of people who are interested in Open Source and sharing what they create, you can find out more here. Over the past few years, the summit has been in New York, Montreal, and I’m excited to be helping it come to Edinburgh in May 2025. The event has over 300 attendees from around the world and a wide range of content you can see on the previous summits’ websites.

Currently I am helping share the call for proposals, which can be found here. This year, the summit is looking for workshops, talks, performances, and exhibitors to share all kinds of creative expression and making. We welcome everything from open source engineering and businesses to creative craftwork and artistic pursuits. We’re also trying to broaden the definition of open source hardware to include a variety of things, so if you like to share your work but aren’t sure if its “hardware” enough, I encourage you to apply! The deadline is December 22 and I’d love to see you apply. We encourage first time speakers as well as established community members.

There are a few other things we are looking for. We’re still on the hunt for a venue for day 2, which can be any community space with rooms for breakout sessions. Additionally, we’re looking for local people to host out of town visitors. The summit can offer discounted tickets for anyone who hosts visitors, so please email he...@leecyb.org if you are interested.

If cost to attend is a barrier, the summit also has a fellowship, which helps financial support for people who may not otherwise be able to attend the event. The fellowship also features a ton of programming from mentors and community members. The application can be found here, so please share this with anyone who might need support to attend.

Finally, I ask you to share this broadly with your community to anyone who might be curious or an active member of open source communities. We are looking to diversity both content and attendees, so that means we need your help to reach the right people. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at he...@leecyb.org

Thank you!

lee,
Open Hardware Summit Chair
