Press Statement

Salute to Hong Kong People. Government should listen to the voice of the people.

13 June 2019

I’m deeply concerned over Hong Kong police used excessive force by firing pepper spray, tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse a demonstration on June 12. According to the Hong Kong Hospital Authority as of Thursday 6am, the number of casualties confirmed was 79 – the youngest of which was 15. Two of them were seriously injured.

Hong Kong government described the peaceful, rational and non-violence protests as a riot. Total eleven protesters arrested. These are worrying signs that freedom and democracy in Hong Kong are moving backward.

I salute to all peaceful protesters who marched with courage on June 9. Thus, I urged the Hong Kong government to respect human rights and democracy. Government should listen to the people and what they worry by shelving the controversial extradition bill.
