Ill say it more clearly, random songs from different CD's are not syncing. For example, a couple of songs from a single CD won't sync, where as the whole CD is on itunes. The burned CD will have all tracks 1-11 & they all play on itunes, but on the iphone it's just a few out of the 11 that actually get transferred, I've tried so so many things to fix this! And, out of almost 4000 songs, It's only a couple hundred that don't transfer, & it's extremely random, not limited to one specific artist, but it's same tracks that don't transfer.
I am having the same issue here, and am tired of having to look through a library of 28,000 songs EVERY SINGLE TIME time to see if iTunes decided to not sync random songs (and I ALWAYS find some). While these workarounds do work, I do not have time to do scour my device every time I sync my music. Very disappointed that Apple has not found a way to fix this syncing glitch, despite multiple updates, none of which seem to address this issue.
Mine does this a lot. A trick I do is change all the songs that won't sync in some subtle way. I add a comment to them all. Then sync, delete the comment, and resync again. That works for me every time.
I mean, look at these crazy suggestions, and they still don't work for me. The attraction of paying a premium for Apple products is "It Just Works," and clearly, they're no longer committed to that principle.
In the comment section type any character and this will update all 9000 of your songs at once. Please note this might take over time minutes due to the amount of songs you have and your computer's speed.
I tried what ReallyCrazyDad suggested and it still didnt work fully. I tried syncing again and the previous songs that were synced disappeared. But we all should not have to use these tweaks and tricks just to upload the d@mn music. So frustrating this
To get started, do you see any particular alerts or errors when trying to sync the music to your iPhone? Also, have you ensured that iTunes is updated to the most recent software version? If check out this link for help with updating iTunes: Update to the latest version of iTunes for Windows 10 - Apple Support
If you're not seeing one of the errors listed in the resource above, have you noticed if the songs that are not syncing to your iPhone are in a different format than the other songs? This may be able to help determine if there's an incompatible issue with the songs you're trying to sync.
FWIW I would recommend creating a dedicated playlist in your library for the content you want on your device and syncing that. It will allow ratings and play counts to sync in either direction and makes rebuilding the content on the device easier to do if/when the device needs to be restored.
Your library is like an index or catalogue. Media files are contained in the library, they are stored (or should be) somewhere on your computer. The "could not be found" error occurs when the file isn't a the known/expected location, or cannot be accessed there for some reason. Take a look at this thread for some advice: iTunes Original File Could Not Be Found - Apple Community.
I have spent all day trying to solve the iTunes showing my iPhone 12 as a device and allowing me to sync, move music around, etc. My PC is running Windows 11 Version 10.0.22621 Build 22621 and was updated this morning. The last time I was able to complete a sync was October of 2022. I have followed all of the advice on line: I have uninstalled/ reinstalled iTunes (12.12.10.1) several times from the Microsoft Store; I have connected my iPhone directly to my PC with a brand new Apple certified cable; I have checked to see if Apple Mobile Device Services is running (it isn't even there in Services no matter how many times i reinstall); etc. I run iTunes diagnostics and continue to get red dots for "iPod support services is not installed" no mater what I do.
The Microsoft Store version of iTunes is supposed to include all the necessary drivers for iTunes to communicate with a connected device. Sometimes, for some people, that doesn't seem to work. You may be better off removing the version of iTunes that you got from the Microsoft Store, and then install using the alternative standalone installer:
For reasons that are unclear the iTunes installer may fail to install or update specific components such as Apple Application Support or Apple Mobile Device Support, even when undertaking a "clean" install such as that described above in Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components. In such cases it may help to extract the individual components from the downloaded iTunesSetup.exe, itunes6464setup.exe oriTunes64Setup.exe file using a utility such as 7-Zip, then install the appropriate .msi file for the missing/outdated component.
Downloading from Apple did get Apple Mobile Devices Services add to Services & Bonjour is now present. However my phone is still not recognized by iTunes and, I can no longer see my iPhone as a drive in File Explorer. When I run the diagnostics in iTunes I now get a red mark beside "iTunes Helper is not running". I went into Services and made sure Apple Mobile Devices Services is running, made sure it was set to Automatic, and stopped and restarted it. I reran diagnostics and got the same result.
Driver is not called MTP USB Device. There are 6 drivers files listed under Portable Devices/Apple iPhone. In addition, under Universal Serial Bus Devices there are multiple file listings for Apple Mobile Device USB Composite Device and Apple Mobile Device USB Device.
I recently updated my iPhone 12 Pro IOS to 17.2 the other day and now when I connect the iPhone 12 Pro to iTunes on my iMac, iTunes get stuck 'syncing' the phone at step 2 of 4. This is very frustrating as everything was working happily before the phone update and now I cannot back-up or sync my iPhone in iTunes.
I'm running a rather old iMac (2009) which is running Mac OS 10.13.6 High Sierra. I have not been able to update the OS beyond this for a while but the iMac runs well although some functionality has been lost to to the age of the computer.
Agreed, as xCowboy indicated in their fix, the sync problem will re-appear when you reconnect the iPhon to iTunes again. I have experienced that today. I have added a comment on here that Apple Support need to be passing this feedback to their developers to rectify the issue in the next IOS update for the iPhone.
This syncing issue started to manifest itself with the introduction of IOS 17.2 and it is up to Apple to sort this, not the customer. I sympathise with you but what can we do if Apple refuses to engage here?
I'm having this same problem. Itunes gets stuck in Sync Mode on Step 2. I'm using Windows 11. I've tried to search online how to use those steps about the Activity Monitor and the MDCrashReportTool. Can you please tell me how to find those in IOS or a way to do it in Window 11?
To permanently stop the problem I went to where the actual file is located. I cut the file and pasted it into a folder I created in my documents (just in case I need it in the future). Problem permanently solved!
It is now December 18th, and this is still an issue. I just got an M3 MacBook Pro. I would like to just sync my music. From what I've read out and about on the internet, it might have something to do with the AppleWatch being paired. My iPad, running 17.2 syncs fine. My old iPhone, running 17.2 also syncs fine (last time I checked). However, my new iPhone 15 Pro, running 17.2 won't sync. I do have my AppleWatch paired, but I'm not going to unpair my AppleWatch just to try it out.
If it keeps repeating itself maybe that's a task for Apple SE's to fix it. If there are any Apple software engineers on the Community please can you pick this one up and address it. This error only started after I installed the most recent version of the IOS so it is Apple induced.
Meanwhile, for those waiting for Apple to correct the issue, you should know that the MDCrashReportTool has been in existence since 2009 and the issue being discussed has been around for years, release after release.
While all of us would love to have this resolved by Apple developers, after all this time, the reality is there is little incentive for them to do so. Sadly, I do not feel this will ever happen (IMHO).
This is the solution right here. While stuck on Step 3 or whatever step you're stuck on just ctrl+alt+delete to open Task Manager. In the iTunes task click the drop down then right click on the MDCrashReport item and end this task. The sync will finish right away.
After updating to the latest ios 17.21, my iphone 15 Pro no longer would sync with iTunes. It would stall in Step 2. Suggestions in the comments to use Task Manager and end a certain file did end the stall, but the sync did not complete. I could verify this by a) how quickly it ended and b) by looking at my Play Count on songs, which did not change.
Apple needs to fix this asap, and I plan on submitting a support ticket as unpairing your Apple Watch should not be the way you workaround a problem, especially considering the time it takes to do this, and make sure everything comes back
