We're in the middle of a prolonged internet outage and I thought I might be able to download some content to my phone over mobile data, disconnect mobile data and connect to my home's wifi network, and cast content to my Chromecast.
The thing is, neither the Google Home app, nor any app with built in cast (like Prime Video) can find any of the Chromecast devices on my home wifi network when I am connected to it (and mobile data is disabled).
I have tried power cycling everything. There's a solid white light on the Chromecast and I can see it's open Wifi SSID and connect to it. I cannot cast to it whether I'm on the home SSID or the Chromecast SSID. It's a 2nd Generation chromecast that I want to use, but I cannot see the Chromecast w/ Google TV or the Chromecast Audio either.
Thanks for updating this Community thread and glad to hear that our support team was able to help you. Let us know if you still have questions and concerns otherwise, I'll be locking this thread after 24 hours.
Let's see if this will help you. On your iPhone, tap Settings > scroll down and tap Pandora > under Local Network, disable and then enable this option (Note: If it was disabled to begin with, be sure it's enabled)
I have had this same issue for years! It usually resolves itself and will work fine for a month or two but then bam all over again. It's extremely frustrating. I prefer to cast directly from the Pandora app versus Google Home voice controls as I have more control over music, stations etc, however when Pandora app won't cast I begrudgingly use GH as it always work. Right now however I am having issues with that. I am tech savvy guy and have tried all of the troubleshooting, unlinking/linking devices, accounts etc. When it works it's great as I have a mix of devices all over the house (2 Vizio sound bars, JBL portable, and a couple minis). I don't want to leave Pandora as I have all my stations finely tuned but if Spotify works perfectly I may be making the switch very soon.
I've been using Pandora on my Google speakers for years and never had a problem. 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for years now. Today I switched over to annual billing from monthly (pandora plus) and now I can't make Pandora play on any of my Google speakers on my home. It responds verbally playing the pandora channel and total silence. When I then ask what the name of the song is it only responds by saying, "Pandora is playing right now." when it clearly is not.
I have power cycled each speaker. I have also unlined Pandora to my Google account and relinked it. I'm out of ideas, and am irritated that this happened k. The day the annual billing commenced. I use the voice control way too often to have to come up with a different solution.
I too upgraded to a paid Pandora plan today and suddenly can't cast to my Google Chromecast with Google TV, but I was previously able to cast seamlessly when I had a free Pandora account. This is a very strange bug, handicapping user's experience when they begin paying for Pandora.
I've been trying to Chromecast Pandora from my Google Home App to my tv. I've been able to do this without till just the other day. Now it plays YouTube Music, but I don't even have an account. I have linked and unlinked several times. I've tried changing defaults and going back to Pandora. Nothing is working. Ideas for me?
Yesterday I was on my free trial and I could cast to my Google home speakers. Today I upgraded to continue using the service and now I can't connect to my Google home. I've Uninstalled Pandora app, unplugged my Google home, restarted my app, cleared the storage on the pandora app under settings, gone offline and back online it just keeps telling me it ended the session with my Google home.
Same issue here with the cast icon disappearing from my app. I last cast to my Google Nest speaker on 7/1/2021. Came back to work today and tried to start casting.... to no avail. I updated to the newest app version today, conducted numerous power cycles on phone, disconnected and reconnected Nest speaker from power source and even tried to uninstall and reinstall Pandora app to no avail. Please assist. Have a blessed day everyone!
I've had a problem casting to my google tv boxes. Pandora is the only app that I can't cast. I saw your post saying you had a glitch but I have not been able to cast for several months. I have an old chromecast fob at another house and can cast fine to it.
Thank you @Saoiray. I can see now that this has been happening since June 14 (unless brave://crashes is limited to 1 week, then it may have been longer)
Here are the three most recent uploaded crash reports from Windows:
Are you using either of those by chance? Or are you hitting the icon on the video player on websites? If using the ones that appear on sites, try to use what I mentioned above. And when casting, try the different options. For example, I tend to use Cast Screen which mirrors my device to the screen. When you choose Cast Tab it tries to open in apps on the Chromecast instead, which it sounds like you might be seeing when it shows the YouTube logo on the screen

An eternal issue it seems, starting a new thread to see if any more recent solutions have come up. Suddenly, after working for years, my chromecast audio stops/lags for 40 seconds and then starts again, for a couple of seconds before it stops permanently.
Casting from Spotify on new iPhone, on new Macbook and on web browser (Chrome and Firefox tried), all software is up to date and I've reset the router, uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify on the phone. Nothing works. Trying to cast from the open.spotify.com web version has been branded as a solution but this is not working either. Someone please help...
Thank you for all the reports and detailed info.
This is now being looked into backstage. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know anything new on the matter.
Keep your apps up-to-date in the meantime
Cheers!
For some weird reason it works with the help of Google Home , telling my Google Home : "Hey Google, play Spotify from my Chromecast Audio" solves the problem. So this is my workaround for now. Hope that helps someone
Thanks, I'm afraid it doesn't solve the problem. Both when casting from iphone and macbook, same issue. And you can't hotspot since you have to be on the wifi network to cast. Don't have multiple accounts.
it's exactly the same for me. sometimes the song will be playing on the phone or computer but no sound via chromecast, and/or lagging so bad that the playback stops, while it's flawless on the computer or phone, and other apps can stream without problems.
I'm having issues chrome casting Poweramp. I can chrome cast Spotify, Radioplayer just fine. It also works with VLC for local files on the cellphone. While using Poweramp I have the 2 following issues :
@Mathieu Grenier I would add that Poweramp casting works differently vs Spotify or other streaming/network radio players, as Poweramp commands Chromecast to stream from your device, while Spotify and others command Chromecast to connect to some internet server. VLC can do both, local playback is similar to Poweramp, but Poweramp uses custom Chromecast player "page" which supports non-compressed/hi-res audio.
No Chromecast icon means Google Services do not detect Chromecast on the network (all the Chromecast devices discovery/detection/etc. happens in Google Services). Or it's just disabled in Poweramp ("Chromecast Button" option).
Regarding connection issue, your saying that it's normal for VLC to access my local files while Poweramp is unable to chrome cast at all? (No chromecast Icon)? Both my apps are opened, VLC sees the chrome cast device, Poweramp doesn't. This would be because of the way VLC chrome casts? If so wouldn't the firewall rules apply to VLC as well?
Just found something out. Tried to stream local media from my pc to chromecast without succes. I didn't notice I had my VPN's firewall active. I just closed it, now I can stream from my PC to my chromecast device. Will try to look if something in Android phone is acting as a firewall...
@Murph thanks for the log, nothing wrong from Poweramp side of view (this is only Poweramp log, the complete developer options "Full Log" may contain more data, but please send that to gpma...@gmail.com if you do it).
It's quite hard to diagnose based on other app, but is VLC plays your local phone media on Chromecast, then most probably phone to Chromecast connection is OK, and there is a problem with accessing from your Chromecast device.
So if I understand correctly the chromecast device must be able to access How can I make the device connect to that page? Is there a router parameter or else I can modify to change that? My computer and cellphone can access that website (I assume it' normal to only see Poweramp logo).
First, if you don't see Developer Options at the bottom of your Android Settings menu, there's a magic sequence to activate the feature: Android Settings=>About Phone/Device=>Software Information=>tap on 'Build Number' seven times.
Go through the normal listening process of getting the error to occur, and then go to Android Settings=>Developer Options=>Bug Report, select 'Full Report', and tap Report. You won't see anything immediately but a detailed report will be generated in the background which may take several minutes. Once it's done you'll get a Notification which you can use to send the log to gpma...@gmail.com. If the log file is too big for your email software (detailed logs tend to be tens of megabytes) you could instead upload it to somewhere like Dropbox or Google Drive and sent Max a share link to it.
