After finally beating the Crusader Trail challenge, here's some tactics that work well. See the above tactic for using an ox tether to block the enemies gate, but only use this on particularly difficult boards as you will not be able to collect stone.
Starting tactic, set game speed to lowest possible setting and spot your initial towers and crossbowmen. Put speed back after to preferred setting after you're set up. Defense is the first priority at all times. If you can defend then you can later go on offense.
Do not get locked into the concept of enclosing your castle. Quite often the best tactic is to surround your village area with towers filled with crossbowmen and ballistas. After filling the tower, delete the bottom step, enemy forces cannot get in and they won't try to tear it down either. You can always put it back in to send up reinforcements.
Leave an opening in your castle walls, heavily defend the opening. Attackers will gravitate to that opening, leaving the rest of your castle clear with walls that don't require defending. Make a death pass between two walls at that openeing, funnelling the enemy into a narrow place filled with swordsmen or pikemen.
Enemy towers that have seige engines can be taken out with the Assassin. Sneak him to the tower and let him kill the engineers. Use fire ballistas to burn the enemies farms, he will spend resources on replacing them instead of making new soldiers.
First, go into C:Program FilesFirefly StudiosStronghold CrusaderfxSpeech or wherever you installed Crusader. You will find a bunch of sound files. You need a microphone to do this. To make this easier, put the list of files in alphabetical order. Now, scroll down to the file Insult1. Insult1=F1 and you get the idea. (You can double click to listen to the file). Now right click on Insult1 to bring up a menu. Look down the list and find, "record". Click on that and it should bring up the sound recorder. Press record, record what you want to say and click stop. Instead of going to file save, press the close box and it should come up with a message stating the directory of the file changed and it will ask you if you want to save the changes. Click yes. Now, you can go into the game, press F1 and you should hear your recording. You can also do this with any other file in the speech folder. Note: Be aware that you can't change the file back to its original voice unless you reinstall the game. This is based on Windows XP and it might not be the same on Windows 98. etc.
Take a small building such as an Oxen Tether. Place 1 or 2 of them right outside the gatehouse(s) of your enemy's castle, but make sure their keep is enclosed first. Immediately put the Oxen Tethers to sleep. The ground troops will walk to the gatehouse to destroy them but they can't get through, so they just walk back to their spot. Your enemy's buildings outside of the castle will spontaneously crumble because the workers can't get back inside the castle. Also, the gatehouse(s) you blocked might spontaneously crumble after a while. Soon there will be no food and the peasants will leave the castle. The small army will be trapped inside their own walls awaiting your arrival. When your army is built up, you can just waltz over and wipe the whole castle off the map. (Note: Make sure there are no enemies outside of the castle, or else they will probably come and destroy your oxen tethers.
Stronghold: Crusader (2002) and Stronghold: Crusader II (2014) are parts of a real-time strategy saga about the world of knights that take us from medieval England to the Middle East during the Crusades. Here you fight enemy armies, build and besiege fortresses, develop oases, find allies and conduct various campaigns and single missions. You can create a Templar kingdom in your own right during the First, Second or Third Crusades, intrigue and take part in the famous battles in the desert and the siege of Antioch, Krak des Chevaliers and Jerusalem.
Stronghold Crusader II, released in 2014, introduced a 3D graphics engine and a number of other innovations, including a cooperative multiplayer mode. An important difference from the first game also lies in the fact that cheat codes do not work here, which, unfortunately, limits the possibilities of players.
We will give you some tips to help you be successful in the game. You will find a lot of skirmishes and battles in the game, but keep in mind that whoever is a good manager of his kingdom wins in this game. Take care of your oases and wells, make gold reserves, also think about the availability of your reserves and mines, and that it is convenient and fast to deliver supplies and products, in a word, a lot depends on the right logistics. Develop the production of bread so that your peasants are fed, but do not forget about ale.
Any help would be appriciated. AuthorReplies: CaptSkubba

Scenario Contest Winner posted 02-23-06 08:50 EST (US) 2 / 9 Maybe I did not explain myself very well.First, I want to mention that Stronghold Crusader is one of my favorite games.
However, I am having trouble with Stronghold 2.I am having hard time producing enough resources and income, to a point that I cannot build much of an army.Games have taken too long for me, and I am in a stalemate with the AI.I am at a point that it is not fun for me to play Stronghold 2 anymore.I need to find a way to boost my economy via a mod or a cheat.Otherwise I cannot play Stronghold 2 anymore.Any help would be appreciated.[This message has been edited by MosheLevi (edited 02-23-2006 @ 08:51 AM).] CaptSkubba
Bishop (VIP) posted 02-23-06 08:59 EST (US) 3 / 9 I don't know how it is that you're playing the game, but you're one of the first ones I've seen to have said that you can't do it. Most others argue that some of the balancing is too easy! The main thing I would recommend is using alternative methods of setting up your economy. Little changes like where you lay your buildings etc can make a huge difference. Also, I think you'll find that the majority of forum members are very much against discussion of cheats/cracks within these forums. Why would they object that players use cheat codes against the AI.
After all I am not trying to cheat against another player.
Most games offer cheat codes to help players at the beginning, as they are learning the game.
Without cheat codes many players would give up too soon and sell their games on Ebay. When I started to play Stronghold Crusader it was also very hard for me at the beginning, but I used the setting where I get much more money at the start of the game.
That helped me a lot and a result I have played Stronghold Crusader for several hundreds of hours in the past two years. Now, I am having the same type of trouble with Stronghold 2, except that cannot find a way to have an advantage where I can play the game and get better. Is there anything you can suggest or can you point me to a nother web site that can help me?

Archer posted 02-23-06 15:38 EST (US) 5 / 9 We do ban discussions of cheating in multi-player but not for single player. But I think you'll find it is severely frowned on, even for single player, by most forumers here. That's certainly the case for me.I think you do yourself a great disservice by trying to rely on cheats, rather than concentrating on building your skills. They will tend to stunt your growth, so to speak, as a Stronghold player. They just aren't necessary. But you have taken one very positive step, which is asking for help here. We're all glad to give you advice on how to increase your playing skills.I assume you're probably playing Kingmaker. Have you tried the Path of War and Path of Peace campaigns? These are excellent learning grounds for most of the skills you need in Stronghold 2. Most of my advice that follows applies to most types of maps, and for SH2, SH1, and Crusader, even though it's directed specifically at SH2.Set up lots of woodcutters (sawpits) right away. Wood is the lifeblood of building up an economy. And if you start to build up surpluses you can usually sell those off for much needed gold.If you're having a tough time producing enough goods, set more peasants to work. Add production. In addition, as CaptSkubba said, your building layout can significantly effect production. Study worker pathways and habits, shorten their trips.I worry mostly about two areas, food and weapons. If possible I set my granary in an open area where it can be surrounded by farms (this is for SH2 only). If I have the time and space for wheat/bread I give that secondary position to apples, dairy and meat, as it's much more efficient. Get plenty of food production going. Produce or buy all four food groups. Always shoot for four food types and double rations. This will produce a lot of honor and give you a good start on taxes.Weapons workshops need to be near the stockpile and the armory (except for tanners). Keep everything very tight. Need more weapons? Create lots more workshops. From what I read, a lot of players don't set up nearly enough weapons production, especially for archers. You'll need other things, too. Royal food for feasts and honor. Inn and/or church, whatever it takes to get taxes to a -16. You'll need castle services too, for rats, gong and crime.Grab estates as soon as you can. Ten gold each per month like clockwork, it adds up.I would get your population up as high and as fast as you can. More workers for more industries equals more goods/weapons for better defense and more gold through sales of surpluses. Higher populations mean higher income from taxes. They always mean better production, more gold...and better defense. Enemies must get through all those peasants and buildings to get to your keep. Larger economies tend to be much more resilient after a nasty attack.DoY's infamous TREASURE ISLAND - Challenge #13 - Sparrow's Extreme Challenges for SH1 and Crusader Shawnis
