Revealed via a tweet from Netflix's official account, the upcoming movie which consists of segments that didn't make it into jackass forever's final cut will premiere on May 20. The announcement was accompanied by a brief clip of the hazardous gang embarking on a challenge simply titled "The Swingset Gauntlet." Various members of the crew are tasked with crossing a thin walkway in silly costumes while their friends-in-danger attempt to keep them off while riding on a set of playground swings. Netflix confirmed that the Gauntlet is one of several new scenes that will be included in Jackass 4.5.
Created by Johnny Knoxville, Spike Jonze and Jeff Tremaine, Jackass debuted on MTV in 2000, originally running for three seasons and 25 episodes until 2002. The series centered on Knoxville and his friends performing wacky stunts and pranks on one another, sometimes in a public setting. While the show itself was short-lived, it spawned four theatrical films (including Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa), one straight-to-DVD film, two television specials and several spinoff shows, including Viva La Bam and Wildboyz.
Despite the excitement surrounding jackass forever, the film was instantly marred by controversy following the release of its first trailer. The movie, which contains various stunts that include animals, was condemned by PETA who encouraged audiences to protest its release. Shortly after this event, Knoxville, Jonze and Tremaine were hit with wrongful termination lawsuit from star Bam Margera. The case has since been dropped as it was dismissed with prejudice and can't be refiled.
An all-new feature, Jackass 4.5, is set to debut on Netflix this next month. In May, the new film will include unused footage from the recently released jackass forever. It is set to debut on 20th May.
