John, it is getting boring as I have to agree with you AGAIN!

Lecson PLUS Gales must be an absolute dream combination, which I can't
have at the moment, because I haven't got an AP3 yet.....big sigh....
But who knows!
I especially agree with what you say about the Gales sounding as
detailed and clear as the Quad ESL with just a lot more punch!

Because this is EXACTLY what I thought when comparing the sound of my
Quad and Gale speakers!

So in a way, we are a happy bunch.....if just that AP3 wasn't
missing..... ;)))

BUT there is hope: I already have a spare AC1, just waiting
for..........your guess!! :)))

Lothar

P.S. I still can't believe that Stan has NOT made a comment on the one
pic of him in the Lecson story......or did I just miss that
one??? ;)))

Stan sent the picture to me, so I wouldn't expect a comment.

"The Lecson Story" is a nice format to make little changes in the story on.
Everybody seems to have a little piece tucked away somewhere and this thing
jogs their memory.

We're trying to get more of the old guard involved this year (Boothroyd and
Stuart, Singhania, some of the staff as well). We'll see.

Hopefully that Ferrari thing is keeping Meridian afloat.

You've got a nice collection brewing there, don't you? What amp are you
using with the Gales now?

Did you like the text regarding the FM1 or was it a bit over the top? I've
been fiddling with our this morning.

So Stan himself sent you the picture!
I'm surprised, because I remember he did not exactly like an old photo
with him, wearing a rather adventurous jacket PLUS (I think it was)
Howard's comment on it!
So: Well done Stan ! Picture of the young genius before he conquered
the world! :)))

FM1: I DO like what you write John, as it is exactly the design PLUS
fun element that make it a great tuner, NOT the mere comparison of
technical data.

At a time when 99% of Hifi had to be HUGE and SILVER, the Lecsons were
the freaks: You either loved them or hated them!

As I said before, my present and most loved Hifi combination is Quad
405 (which I DO think is a great amp), plus pre-amp 33, tuner FM3 (?)
plus ESL 55 completely refurbished with original parts.
All this combined via a little switchboard with Lecson FM1, AC1 and AP1
(X)

So I can easily switch from Quad to Lecson.

My Gales, at present, are powered by a Luxman L-435 with 100 Watts
into 8 Ohm, which is more than enough to drive them quite nicely, and
I think these old "champagne" Luxmans are REAL great stuff.
BUT.....of course, in the back of my head, there is still that little
idea about my spare AC1 plus an AP3 MKII which I haven't got and
probably just can't afford!

So.......

OK, I've updated "The Lecson Story" again. Scroll to the bottom for a
summary of sales prices over the last four years. Data compiled by Lothar,
naturally.

Three interesting things caught my attention:

1. Anything Lecson (from the first iteration of the company) sold on eBay.

2. The stuff is appreciating pretty quickly (who knows about this year
though).

3. The total amount of equipment for sale is remarkably low.

As always, please add your comments and corrections.

Happy New Year,

John

We just added what we believe is the world's first photo of the Lecson
AP4 amplifier on the web. Find it in "The Lecson Story".

More will be coming later this year. Stay tuned.

So who has the pleasure of owning and refurbishing the 2 known amps?

I wish it was me !

An owner that currently wishes to remain anonymous.

I'll give you a hint- he's a great guy!

I'm jealous too!
