Hello All

My reason for joining the group is because of a long standing interest
in Lecson equipment and needing help with an AP1. I used to own back
in England just before Lecson folded an AC1-AP! set up. Looked
absolutely stunning but it proved to be somewhat unreliable and was
replaced by a diferrent system.

Not long ago I purchased from New Zealand an AC1-AP1 setup, the
amplifier had a problem with one channel, a friend's son who
supposedly knows about HiFi had a look at the amp nad needless to say
managed to destry the other channel.

I really would like to get it going if only for the pleasure of using
such a beautifully styled piece of gear.

Obviously there is no Lecson "support" here in Western Australia and I
guess shipping the amp back to the UK or Europe for fixing would be
exceedingly expensive and perhaps not worth doing. Is there a
comparable power amplifier that could be inserted into the Lecson case
or is it a lost cause?

Any thoughts or polite suggestions will be really welcome.

My HiFi equipment collection comprises of: B&O, Revox, ASC, Tandberg,
Uher and Sonab.

Best wishes to all from Perth WA.

John

hi and welcome, Please don't gut the lecson!. The AP1 is a simple amp
to repair provided only the transformer is working and I've never
heard of one which failed.

The service manual and diagrams are on this site + members who know
about it. Try and find someone who repairs radios / TV's or is a Radio
Ham, Electronics hobbiest ( fairly serious though) and get them to
contact the group.

These are repairable and Parts are about / subtitutable

Hi all,

I'll second that.It would be criminal to (as you say ) " GUT IT ".

Any competant electronics technician will be able to repair it.Use your common sense, there are many " backyard mechanics" who claim to know what they are doing, as you have no doubt found out.Thats the last thing you need.

All the technical info is available on site ( often the most difficult part of a repair is the info or non availability of it ) and parts should be no problem.Even here in South Africa I had no problem. Again some substitution info is available on site.

To me the most important aspect is always cosmetics.

One of my AC1's had been hacked, butchered, call it what you will, but cosmetically was 9 out of ten, needless to say, now works perfectly after being given a loving home and rather a lot of TLC.

Your unit will be worth restoring, hang in there.

Martin

Hello John,

If you can't find a repair shop you are happy with why not ask the
importer of Boothroyd Steward Meridian stuff who they use. They won't
be cheap but they will be competent and with the info on this site
should be able to get it going again.

Please don't gut it !

Good luck,

Graham

We have a member of the Gale group (who is also a Lecson collector) that
lives in Perth.

He's been a fantastic resource for us, and I have no doubt he knows exactly
how to sort out your problem with the Lecson kit locally.

I've contacted him offline and suspect he'll be making contact with you
soon.

Based on his background, I suspect you'll make a new friend as well.

John
