Just got a pair of the ULTRA rare "Lecson Lynette" speakers (see info at new forum) for peanuts !  :))))

Have NEVER been offered in the 11 years I have been watching ebay now !

Need a little refurbishing, but with our "Gale-Guru" David at my side, what could go wrong!???

One tweeter has to be replaced, maybe veneer refurbished and the very special foam grills have to be replaced, as unfortunately, these had a tendency to completely disintegrate after a couple of years.
Well, most Hifi mags in the seventies liked the Lynettes a lot, and even Stan sounded rather positive, so what could go wrong!??

BOY!  Did I urgently need another pair of speakers!  ;))))

Will keep you updated with pictures, if there is any interest at all!?

Lothar

I'm glad you won them.

If no one else showed any interest I was going to bid to prevent them
being binned but with 3 pairs of Quad electrostatics and a pair of
Gale 401's already it was difficult to justify. You should have good
fun with them and get a decent sounding speaker for not too much
money.

Please keep us updated with progress.

Hi Graham,

what do you mean by JUSTIFY ???  ;))))

I have Hifi in almost all rooms now, plus stored a lot more, so how can you use that horrible word justify?
I need another pair of speakers as badly as a third ear, but what could I do in this case?  ;)))

As I said: They almost NEVER turn up, so I even expected them to sell for a huge price.....and as I have got more than enough Lecson Hifi, except Lecson speakers, I was just PUSHED into buying them!  So much about justifying!  :))

Seems that the Lynettes were THE most loved Lecson speakers anyway, loved by many, which you can't say about the other Lecson speakers!

So......no hurry refurbishing them, but of course will keep you all updated and also take enough pics for our new forum, where they are already, but just pictures from brochures.

Nice score on the lynettes Lothar. It is good to see they stayed in
the hands of an aficionado who will resurrect them and not consigned
to a rubbish bin.

Thanks Juan,

yes, they would most probably have been dumped if they hadn't been sold.

And as these are the only Lynettes I ever saw being sold, I just had to "save" them!

What a good excuse!  ;)))

Well done Lothar :-)
I looked at them myself, but have too many speakers as it is (well, according to the other half ;-) )
Be interesting to know how you get on with the refurb, especially the foam grilles!
Colin

Hi Lothar,

Very good that you won these - well done.

Not quite the only pair on eBay though - back in July 2010 a very rare pair of prototype Lynettes went for £127.  Stan even posted a reply to the seller confirming what they were and correcting the sellers description.

Anyway, I'm glad they're in good hands - unless you're doing the restoration yourself that is ;-)  By your own admission hi-fi DIY is not one of your strong points!

Cheers, Roger.

Hi Roger,

CALM DOWN!  I won't do the refurbishing part myself!  :)))   I would certainly send them to "speaker heaven!"

I completely depend on David's skills as our Gale-Guru!

And yes, I remember the "prototype" which I did not count, as I was talking about "regular" Lynettes, which really never turn up.

Every other Lecson speaker turned up 3-6 times in the last 11 years, not counting the numerous amps. Even the tuner was sold several times.

So....it will take a good while to get things done, and in the end I will have to visit David in the UK, which is one more great reason for going there!

Hi Colin,

YES!  The foam grilles could be a MAJOR problem, but could also turn out to be a piece of cake!

Depends on the right foam, and mostly: Someone with ten gifted fingers to cut it to the right size !

But these special grilles just perfectly complement the strange shape of the cabinets, so it would be GREAT to have them!

Hi Lothar,
They definately need the Grilles!
I need some shaped foam grilles making up for a set of 70's speakers,
but they aren't anywhere near as intricate as the Lynettes!
I'll be interested when you find somewhere to make them - I did find
somewhere in the States a while ago but haven't pursued it yet.
Have you received them yet?

Hi Colin,

It will take a good while to get them, as first of all David has to collect them near London, (a bit too far away to come and collect them from Germany), then he will have all the work unfortunately, but at least HE is the expert for speakers! And YES, the original foam grilles would be absolutely perfect, but as always you have to find someone who can make these things, and even IF there is someone somewhere, it is a matter of costs in the end. No use spending a lot of money on such a thing. So we will just have to wait and see, and of course enough pictures will come in due time!  :)))

Hi Lothar,
I thought it may take a while for you to get them.
Below are a couple of links for the grilles that may be of use;

Look forward to the pictures,
