Im currently upgrading my computer with new hardware and as part of this I am re-installing Windows 10 from a DVD media that I've created with the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.
This probably occurs because the installation media does not contain a specific driver for this device. I can download the driver from the motherboard manufacturer's website, and I can extract it to a USB drive. The archive contains the CAT and INF files so it doesn't require running an installer.
The question is: how can I use this driver during the Windows 10 setup process so that the setup application can use and connect to my wireless access point, access the Internet, and download necessary other drivers, updates and what-not?
Is the process the same as when using a custom AHCI or RAID driver i.e. you just choose "Load custom driver" at the early stage of the setup, and point it to the folder where the INF and CAT files are?
Download and install Intel network connection driver: -Gigabit-Network-Connection-Driver-for-Intel-NUC-Kits-NUC6i-x-SY-and-NUC6i7KYK?product=89187 Download Intel Gigabit Network Connection Driver for Intel NUC Kits NUC6i[x]SY and NUC6i7KYK
1. Usually, the driver file is in .exe format. Extract and decompress the file to a folder. (To extract the file, you need an archive utility such as 7zip. If you don't have one, you can download it online.)
I bought the NUC6i7KYK from Amazon in end December and I encountered the same problem during the installation of Windows 10. When I attempted to install the LAN using device drivers of version 21.1 downloaded from Intel website, I got an warning "There is an issue with Microsoft Windows 10 that prevents the Intel Advanced Network Services feature from work correctly. You may install the feature, although you will be unable to create Intel ANS Teams and VLANs. Do you wish to install the feature?" When I clicked 'Yes' to proceed, I saw the "device not install". However, after I downgrade to version 20.x recommended in this thread, I can see the same warning message and successfully complete the installation of the LAN device driver as an interim solution.
I find out the problem. The problem is caused the Windows 10 licence used. The licence that I used for the initial installation was a licence before activation for evaluation purposes. This licence inhibited all Windows and device drivers update, Windows Store download, etc. After I have properly activated the Windows 10 licence, I am able to download all the Windows updates and successfully installed the latest device drivers included the Intel LAN drivers 21.1.
Message, it hangs for a while and then fails. I have no idea why a driver is being released with this problem, I assume it's on Microsoft's end based one what I've read. If I then try and install using Intel's tool I get:
Before trying the fix of installing the old driver, I read this thread and checked the activation status in System - and yes it was Activated. I didn't have an internet connection when I initially installed Windows or tried to install the drivers that came on the mobo disk but I did install a genuine copy of Windows and did connect it afterwards (I maybe wrong assuming an internet connection is needed for activation).
I have the exact same problem, I attempted to install -Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-10 Intel Network Adapter Driver for Windows 10 version 21.1 (the latest version at this time), the install of the driver would hang for 5 minutes, and then fail. Due to this post, I installed -Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-10 Intel Network Adapter Driver for Windows 10 version 20.7.1 and the driver and wired ethernet connection works fine. This is only a temporary solution, what happens when there is a network driver update we need to move to, but it doesn't work? This is unacceptable, please provide a fix for the latest driver.
Edit 01/03/17: See my recent /thread/109626 post for additional details including how I worked around the problem of not being able to install the current latest -Network-Adapter-Driver-for-Windows-10 Intel Network Adapter Driver for Windows 10 version 21.1.

Check this out. There was a way to manually install the .inf file. Windows prompted me to reconsider but I went through with it. Seems to be working. Never had this much trouble with Ethernet drivers before.
It was suggested by @Murph_9000 that Microsoft has since added drivers for these devices in the Windows installer. Hopefully, this is true, but this is the first time I have ever done an install without a basic driver for Ethernet or Wi-Fi available.
Although @Murph_9000 also shows a file structure which would allow access, but on the Z790, the USB drive needs to start a virtual DVD in order to read the file structure, so not sure how that would work during an installation.
For now, there is another really easy fix that works if you just want a local install (I know this isn't answering the question) but grab the latest Windows 11 iso and burn it with the latest version of Rufus. You'll get a couple of options when burning the image to USB. One of those options brings back the 'I don't have internet' during the install process. Works perfectly. There are other fixes, including installing the network drivers from USB, but that's the easiest way for a 'non-network' install that I know of. It might stop working in the future, but for now it's good.
I have been trying to figure out for the past several days hoe I can install the LAN Drivers for my motherboard on to the PC that I am running Windows Server 2019 Essentials on. I have attempted to install them using the drivers disk that came with the motherboard; but was given an error message stating that there was no Intel Network adapter installed, when it's built into the motherboard. Then i went to motherboard manufacturer website to download the drivers from there onto a flash drive and the driver still would not install onto the computer. I am using a ASRock B360 Pro 4 motherboard.
I've just recently finished a clean install of windows vista 64 on my XPS 730x. After installing windows and then resintalling the dell drivers I can NOT get my network adapter to function. It will not find any networks to the internet, and when microsoft tries to figure out what is going on it continually says that the adaptor has not been set up properly or needs new drivers. My xps came with the Broadcom 57xx gigabit integrated controller, and I have downloaded that driver from Dell, however even after installing it the PC acts as if it doesn't exist.
I needed to go into the device manager, selecte the ethernet controller and point it at the drivers in the dell folder and it installed them correctly. Before I had no idea that the order was so important for drivers, and second I had assumed that the network driver had installed itself correctly since I had received no direction otherwise, ha.
Did you check the connection to your router and/or modem? Maybe the ethernet cable is not plugged in properly. A network card like yours is not a wireless card. It will not search for networks. After plugging in the cable from the card to your broadband modem or router, it is always on and always connected as soon as you turn the computer on. Just start your browser to connect to the Internet. Use the Network and Sharing Center in Windows for more help.
If you didn't install the System Software and chipset (first, or not at all), download them on any PC and copy to the desktop of the 730x. Then reboot in Safe Mode. Install them in the correct order and reboot normally.
thanks for the replies, i left for work after making the thread so I haven't been able to test anything out. (I'm still at work now actually, just on break) should be off soon to get home and play around some more with it.
@mary the ethernet connection is fine, and I've gone over the physical hardware a few times so everything seems to be fine there. I am using a laptop at home to do my net scouring and driver downloading.
@Rich. I had no idea the order of installation was so important, the last time I clean installed it came with a handy system cd that did it all. The separate files I have to download thing is a bit of a pain, heh. I think just by the numeric order of the files I may have come close to the order but I can't say for sure that they are done correctly. I will try what you suggested. thanks for the tip!
You suggested uninstalling and reinstalling a network adapter driver. Where do I do that from? In the device manager I can only uninstall the entire device, also I don't know which one of the many adapters from the list I should edit. Where do I uninstall the network adapter driver from?
Look under Network Adaptors Ethernet Controller in Device Manager for Broadcom 57XX Gigabit Integrated Controller. You need this driver for it. And you can use this tool to test the 57XX circuitry to see if it's working correctly after the driver is installed.
After formatting and doing another clean install of windows vista 4 Ive now started over with the correct order of installing drivers. But im now noticing a strange thing. There is no executable for installing the network driver. After extracting the file, there is a folder with three folders each a different OS. I go to my vista64 and this is what I see:
I must have skipped past this the first time and installed the utility thinking it was the driver since it actually had an exe that did something inside. On the dell page for this driver the install description is no help, it reads :
this does nothing since the main folder for this is empty other than 3 folders (Vista, Vista64, Xp). none of them have exes. Where should I put this files, and do I need to make entries myself? WIthout an exe to install this Im a bit lost. After installing and running the utility it says that there is no broadcom adapter installed, which I can believe since there has been no installation of any kind of these drivers. They are just sitting there.
