The Mystic River Watershed is a collection of rivers, streams, lakes, and ponds that drain an area of approximately 76 square miles and 21 municipalities north of Boston. Since the early 1990's EPA and many public and private partners have worked to improve water quality throughout the watershed.

A perfect balance requires a perfect setting. For us, it is all about rejuvenating the mind and relaxing the body. Our flawlessly designed yoga deck lays right on the riverside and offers gorgeous views and sounds of the flowing river below. Fitted with yoga mats and the natural sounds of the jungle, our guests can make their way to the deck for their own private and personal connection to nature.

We offer a number of outdoor activities and exploration of this beautiful jewel we call Belize. For thrill seekers we have adventure tours, for the bird watchers we have plenty of rare bird observations. We also have tranquil and accessible activities.

Mystic River is exactly what we were looking for in our first stay in the Cayo district. It is secluded, but not too far out of the way from activities (we were even able to canoe down to the local market in San Ignacio). The resort is tranquil at times and at others, is full of sounds from various birds, bugs and howler monkeys. Pieter & Petro that manage the hotel are an absolute wonder!

I would first like to start off to say that Petra and Peter are awesome! Their attentiveness to me and my wife made the vacation an absolute delight. These two ensured everything that we needed was taken care of well ahead of time and even provided transportation for us to the local city

We stayed two nights at Mystic River; not nearly enough time to do. much, but enough time to know this is a special place with something for everyone. From quiet time by the pool, to high energy excursions, this place has you covered.

Mystic River is the most magical place we have ever been! We spent 3 days and had an amazing time. It is hard to believe you are in a tropical jungle with the beautiful accommodations they offer. The food, staff and setting were first rate! Hats off to our hosts Petro and Pieter. They were awesome! Would return in a heartbeat!!!

We stayed at Mystic River Resort in early November 2021. We organized transportation from Belize airport though the resort and had an informative and entertaining ride with Albi. We were greeted at the resort by Petro, who was extremely helpful in setting up tours and showing us the resort.

Get out on the water on your own aboard a traditional small craft. Borrow a rowboat, sailboat, or pedal boat and spend an hour exploring the Mystic River. Choose one of more than a dozen boats that vary in capacity from 2 to 5 people (plus a dog!).

Cruises require a minimum of 6 passengers to run. If a cruise is unable to run, passengers will be notified as soon as a decision has been made, and you may choose to reschedule or receive a full refund. Refunds will be processed ASAP, but no later than 2 days after your initially scheduled cruise.

Board the National Historic Landmark vessel Sabino, built in 1908, and enjoy a unique 30-minute ride along the waterfront of Mystic Seaport Museum or a 90-minute downriver trip. Bring your family and friends along for a morning, afternoon, or pre-dinner cruise. Beverages and snacks may be purchased on the dock before boarding.

Two diesel electric generators were recently added to the historic steam plant. Come enjoy a silent, peaceful ride and see the sites along the Mystic River. Tickets are sold at the Waterfront Tours Ticket Booth.

Mystic Seaport Express departs from the Drawbridge Dock in downtown Mystic. Enjoy a 30-minute narrated tour of the Mystic River before stopping at the Museum docks where you may get out and explore the Museum. Return to downtown via Mystic Seaport Express from the same dock at any of the scheduled departure times.

Liberty is available for private group charters for trips along the Mystic River, and will occasionally operate from the Drawbridge Dock in downtown Mystic on the same schedule as the Mystic River Express.

The Mystic River Herring Education Program connects people to the remarkable river herring migration and the science behind it using technology, data gathering and visualization, and school engagement. The program is run by the Mystic River Watershed Association.

The City of Somerville is making substantial systemwide investments to modernize its sewer and stormwater infrastructure. As part of this effort, the City will be constructing a new stormwater outfall pipe which will discharge to the Mystic River, installing new drainage infrastructure, and rehabilitating the existing sewer system in the neighborhood west of Foss Park. This project will reduce flood risk in the surrounding area and help maintain the water quality of local rivers.

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, Ward 4 Councilor Jesse Clingan, and City staff invite you to join a virtual community meeting to learn about flood relief and water quality improvement efforts planned for Winter Hill, Ten Hills, and the surrounding neighborhood.

At this meeting, City staff will introduce the project and share initial conceptual designs. Following the presentation, residents will have the opportunity to ask questions about the project and provide feedback.

If you live in or own a property listed here, we would like to perform a survey of your property drainage features. The information gathered will be used solely for the design of underground utilities on your street and will not be shared with other persons or parties outside of the project team.

The Mystic River is cleaner today than it was 50 years ago, thanks in large part to the Clean Water Act, passed 50 years ago this month, in October of 1972. The Act was a game changer for urban waterways like the Mystic, long a dumping ground for industrial waste.

In 2021, the main body of the Mystic River earned a grade of B+ on its annual EPA Water Quality Report Card. The assessment is based on how often waters meet bacterial standards for safe fishing, swimming, and boating. This grade is up from the D the river earned in 2007, when the EPA began compiling data.

Prior to 1877, this lower portion of the Mystic was surrounded by saltwater marsh. The entire area was then filled in to make way for the loading docks and industrial lots now lining the broad channel between Charlestown and Everett. Above the locks, I had encountered other kayakers, but now the only other vessel in sight is a ferry from the new Encore Casino, which was built atop a former Monsanto Superfund site.

The new Bipartisan Infrastructure Law appropriates $43 billion for sewer upgrades, wetland restoration, and green infrastructure. That includes rain gardens and bioswales, which filter nutrients from stormwater runoff. But a decision in favor of the Sacketts could undermine these potential solutions.

Mystic Boat Adventures offers unique guided mini power boat tours where you are your own captain and get to drive the boat yourself for one or three hours. Our Mystic boat tours are fun and exciting, all while giving you incredible views of local, historic Mystic sites along the Connecticut coastline.

With four departures per day, you can easily book a time that works with your Mystic plans. Running around all day? Experience a beautiful Connecticut sunset on our most popular tour of the day, our sunset cruise, which is the last tour every afternoon and departs 3 hours prior to dusk. Unwind from the day with the best seats on the water!

Alcoholic beverages are prohibited during the tour. The driver must be under the legal limit for alcohol to navigate the boat. If a driver appears to be under the influence of alcohol, we have the right to refuse service, no refund given.

Two people must be in each boat that goes out on the tour (excluding the guide boat). In the event you have an odd number in your party. That person must meet the requirements for operating a watercraft. There are opportunities to switch drivers and riders during the tour.

The Mystic River Watershed Initiative is a collaborative effort with a goal to improve water quality and environmental conditions as well as create and protect open space and public access to the Mystic River and its tributaries through safe public pathways and access points. To hear thoughts, perspectives, and insight from some of the not-for-profit and municipal Steering Committee members, play video below.

EPA New England would like to thank everyone that participated in the Mystic River Watershed Summit, held April 10, 2008 in Boston. Over 170 people attended the summit and we are quite pleased with all the energy and enthusiasm that was displayed at the summit. We look forward to working with the Mystic watershed groups and communities to restore water quality in the watershed. Revitalizing the Mystic will be quite a challenge, but forming strong partnerships is the first step toward reaching our common goals.

The draft meeting notes from the Summit have been posted on this web site. Numerous conference calls were held over the summer to finish up discussions and review our typed notes from the breakout sessions. The goal of these calls was to review and refine the meeting notes and further develop actions and priorities.
