Whenyou attach the scanner, via the USB cable, do you get a chime like the computer recognizes that you plugged something in? How about in the lower right hand corner, anything popping up down there?

So the hardware is seeing the scanner, which means John is correct that the driver did not install. Try just deleting those devices out of the device manager and then refreshing and see if you can get to prompt you for where the driver is. You could also try right clicking the device and trying the troubleshoot option. If all that fails, do a system restore back to before you installed anything or plugged anything in. For future reference, for USB devices, you almost always install the software first.

Digital transformation and the rise of hybrid working are changing the business landscape. From scanners that boost organisational productivity to Smart Meeting Devices that enhance meeting productivity, our products fuel growth, collaboration, and innovation.

A 100 sheet ADF and 70ppm duplex scanning speed combined with many marginal process gains mean the fi-8170 delivers real-world productivity without equal. Overscan Control and enhanced multifeed detection prevent stoppages from misfeeds, jams or skews, while post-scan filing time is also reduced. And with no need to prepare different document types in separate batches, a fast start-up time and centralised remote scanner monitoring and management, users benefit from uninterrupted operation, maximum uptime and an unsurpassed user experience.

Long-term strategic advantage is also made a reality. Organisational intelligence is enhanced by the scalable, automated capture of richer, more diverse data sets, making the fi-8170 the perfect partner to support the evolution of the digital transformation journey, from the early to advanced stages.

Our patentedǂ Automatic Separation Control delivers the perfect feed so organisations can scan larger volumes and mixed batches of documents with confidence. By sensing their weight and adapting and adjusting torque automatically, mis-feed and mid-scan interruptions are eliminated. This guarantees feed stability for different document formats and saves users from wasting time sorting different document types into individual batches. It also enables the 100 sheet ADF capacity and higher speeds for more efficient, high-throughput workgroup scanning.

The fi-8170 protects documents from damage using innovative new technology. Patentedǂ Image Monitoring identifies overly skewed documents in real time and halts the scanning process before they can be damaged. ISoP will do the same if it detects any abnormal feed sounds, while Lag detection ensures documents are feeding through at the expected speed.

Unnecessary stoppages in the scanning process are eliminated by automatically recognising and ignoring cards, stickers, and small defined attachments. This patentedǂ technology is an evolution beyond standard multi-feed detection which stops when anything beyond a single sheet is identified during feed through.

Fast boot time and up to 70ppm duplex mean the fi-8170 delivers a highly efficient scanning process for the ultimate in workgroup productivity. Incorporating USB 3.2 and gigabit LAN connectivity also makes rapid file transfer possible.

Automatically adjust scanning area to prevent image loss on skewed documents, removing the need to ever have to rescan slightly skewed documents. Three precisely positioned sensors detect document edges and adjust the scanning area accordingly to fit the document, even if it has been inserted at a skewed angle. Users can scan safe in the knowledge that the entire document will be scanned every time and no part of the image will ever be lost.

Urethane rollers are resistant to absorption of oil from NCR paper, unlike EPDM rollers which can swell and affect feed torque. Maintaining their integrity avoids misfeed and jams for consistent feed performance.

A dedicated hardware chip that automatically corrects common errors, such as blurred or uneven lines, rounds out the document protection suite. The Fujitsu fi-8170 can even scan passports, which are often used as IDs by international students, without taking any precautions first.

The Fujitsu fi-8170 does all of this very quickly. In tests, it easily sustained more than 60 pages per minute with mixed document types, and nearly reached its maximum speed of 70 ppm during scans of more common and unified document types.

Scanners are an important tool in higher education, capturing and digitizing everything from transcripts to passports and even student papers and tests. However, they are often deployed as stand-alone units, assigned to one department or even to a single staff member. As such, IT departments may struggle to manage them and may not even know how many a university owns or where they are deployed.

The Scanner Central Administration software that comes with every Fujitsu fi-8170 aims to change that. It offers powerful tools for configuring and managing scanners, as well as helping to maintain them so they last through many years of constant use.

The admin software also makes it easy to set up a Fujitsu fi-8170 scanner in a shared environment. By using a network connection cable instead of the USB port, the scanner can be networked to a server instead of a PC by installing one of the software management agents there. The scanner can then be shared by any authorized user who is allowed to connect to that server. Each person or group can still be given their own individual scanner profiles, so no control is lost because of the shared environment.

I have Windows 10 and Adobe Acrobat DC Pro. I have a Fujitsu fi-6140 scanner. When I attempt to use Adobe to scan, most of the options (greyscale, B/W. color document, etc) are grayed out. The only option is Custom - which is also crippled with most options blank. It will not scan both sides of page, even though that was option selected. How do I repair this so all options work?

If I am not wrong, you must be using WIA-Fujitsu driver. For WIA drivers presets(Greyscale,Autodetect, Color etc) are not available so these options remains disabled. Also few options like (color mode, resolution and paper size) remains disabled in custom scan of WIA. Reason of all these is you will be presented WIA dialog after you click scan, where you can select these values.

2. For Both side scanning with WIA driver, once WIA dialog comes. Click on the link "Adjust the quality of scanned picture". There will be a checkbox of "Duplex". Select it and scan. It will scan both sides now.

@DBR14 This will not work without a 3rd party provider. ScanSnap scanners do not use Twain drivers so the protocols will not pass through to AVD or W365 without a 3rd party app like TS Scan or FabulaTech.

A scanner driver that cleans and optimises image files for faster, lower-cost access and storage.

The fi-8170 comes bundled with PaperStream IP, an integrated scanner driver and image enhancement module that is built on TWAIN/ISIS standards offering user friendly operability, intuitive high quality image creation and real time processing that will benefit post scan routines like OCR.

Also bundled is PaperStream Capture which is an easy to use capture tool which allows users to easily create batch scanning profiles which encapsulate all of the settings and configuration required to control the scanning process from scan, to the release of the image to the users normal work flow. Once created, batch profiles can be run by a single click or can be linked to scanner front panel buttons to streamline the whole capture process.

Work better, faster and smarter with the optional PaperStream Capture Pro a user friendly, end-to-end capture solution and optimise your information capture, data consolidation and routing of paper-based information into digitally-accelerated processes. PaperStream Capture Pro is a scanning, verifying, extracting and releasing software that enables you to digitise your paper based data in order to optimise your information flow and knowledge sharing.

However, all of a sudden the scanner stopped working an throws up an error saying no scanner found. Upon removing the scanner cable and reconnecting it with auto mode on works perfectly. So, I figured this could be due to the drivers and it was indeed showing up that the dirvers aren't taken even though it is already installed and has been working.

So I did a complete windows update, ininstalled the software, drivers... etc and reinstalled it again with no success. Device manager still shows that it's not picked up the drivers. I have tried both the USB ports with no luck. So I tried it on a different PC and it was all working fine.

we have several users that use the same computer with different login profiles and for some reason the scanner will work for 1 person but if that person logs off and i have another employee log in witht their own profile the scanner is not recognized.

I am having a similar problem. We have numerous P-215 scanners. We have recently upgraded several laptops from WIndows 7 to Windows 10. One every one of them, the scanner driver randomly "disappears" and the scanner will not connect. The only solution is to constantly reinstall the driver, after which it will work for a few days before it disappears again. I have contacted Canon about the issue, and their response is " We don't know anything about it". On several of the laptops, we have replaced the Canon with a ScanSnap scanner and they work fine, so the problem is with Canon, not Windows 10.
