So the hardware is seeing the scanner, which means John is correct that the driver did not install. Try just deleting those devices out of the device manager and then refreshing and see if you can get to prompt you for where the driver is. You could also try right clicking the device and trying the troubleshoot option. If all that fails, do a system restore back to before you installed anything or plugged anything in. I have Windows 10 and Adobe Acrobat DC Pro. I have a Fujitsu fi-6140 scanner. When I attempt to use Adobe to scan, most of the options (greyscale, B/W. color document, etc) are grayed out. The only option is Custom - which is also crippled with most options blank. It will not scan both sides of page, even though that was option selected. How do I repair this so all options work?

If I am not wrong, you must be using WIA-Fujitsu driver. For WIA drivers presets(Greyscale,Autodetect, Color etc) are not available so these options remains disabled. Also few options like (color mode, resolution and paper size) remains disabled in custom scan of WIA. Reason of all these is you will be presented WIA dialog after you click scan, where you can select these values.

2. For Both side scanning with WIA driver, once WIA dialog comes. Click on the link "Adjust the quality of scanned picture". There will be a checkbox of "Duplex". Select it and scan. It will scan both sides now.

@DBR14 This will not work without a 3rd party provider. ScanSnap scanners do not use Twain drivers so the protocols will not pass through to AVD or W365 without a 3rd party app like TS Scan or FabulaTech.

However, all of a sudden the scanner stopped working an throws up an error saying no scanner found. Upon removing the scanner cable and reconnecting it with auto mode on works perfectly. So, I figured this could be due to the drivers and it was indeed showing up that the dirvers aren't taken even though it is already installed and has been working.

So I did a complete windows update, ininstalled the software, drivers... etc and reinstalled it again with no success. Device manager still shows that it's not picked up the drivers. I have tried both the USB ports with no luck. So I tried it on a different PC and it was all working fine.

we have several users that use the same computer with different login profiles and for some reason the scanner will work for 1 person but if that person logs off and i have another employee log in witht their own profile the scanner is not recognized.

I am having a similar problem. We have numerous P-215 scanners. We have recently upgraded several laptops from WIndows 7 to Windows 10. One every one of them, the scanner driver randomly "disappears" and the scanner will not connect. The only solution is to constantly reinstall the driver, after which it will work for a few days before it disappears again. I have contacted Canon about the issue, and their response is " We don't know anything about it". On several of the laptops, we have replaced the Canon with a ScanSnap scanner and they work fine, so the problem is with Canon, not Windows 10.
