I have a new home and have moen showers and tubs. It is a single handle faucet with a tear drop shape. When first turning on the water it is warm as I turn it more to left it gets colder. Both shower and tub are the same. I was thinking that the cartridge is in backwards. How do I change this, or do I have to change the piping?

If this is a Moen Posi-Temp, the water needs to be shut off and the cartridge pulled and turned 180 degrees. If this is a Moentrol or a non-pressure balance Chateau, you can simply remove the handle and turn the cartridge handle 180 degrees. If this is a new house, however, I would have the plumber return and correct this. This is something that he or she should have checked and corrected on trim.

Do not turn off the water. Do not remove the cartridge. Take the handle off only. Then use a pair of pliers to turn the stem half way around, then reinstall the handle. If that does not cure it then you have a pressure balanced unit and may have to turn off the water and reverse the cartridge.
