Hi all,

I'm excited there's a number of us that want to get started in Ruby!

First, I want to preface I'd like this to be focused on beginners in
software development. I only have HTML/CSS skills and I want to use
this group to get started by learning Ruby.

That said, I've consulted with a few Ruby developers who have offered
to help lead our sessions. The plan is to meet every Saturday, discuss/
learn new concepts, and work on an outside project to utilize our new
skill-sets.

I'm in the middle of securing a place and will post back more details
soon. So far, we're planning a start date of October 29th.

Best,

Yasmine

Whoa, 19 members. I didn't think this many people would be interested
in learning Ruby. Thanks for joining :-)

After talking to a few other people, I'd love to take the first class
and turn it into an "Intro to Web Development" class where an
experienced developer can take us through how the internet works, how
web apps are built, how databases work, etc. Basically, have beginners
(like myself) go through the basics so we can grasp programming and
Rails better. I really like the format shown here although it's
probably too complex for what we'll need: http://techiferous.com/2010/07/roadmap-for-learning-rails.
Is there someone on the list that'll be interested in helping us with
this? There's no need to prepare slides, an interactive talk where we
can ask questions would be great.

Those who are more experienced are welcome to join as a refresher or
skip the first session and come along for the next.

I'll send out information on the first session once we find a mentor
for this and I confirm the space.

Thanks!

Yasmine
