Our meetings sort of fizzled around the holidays when everyone got busy with parties and such, but I wanted to let you all know that they're coming back (by popular demand!) in 2010.
Want to help? Our main need right now is for a physical meeting space that we can use reliably on a weekly basis (Monday evenings 7-9pm). preferably in Manhattan or Brooklyn. If you know of such a space, do tell! Our eternal gratitude (and possibly some free beer) will be yours.
In the meantime, I want to encourage you all to use this listserve to update us on your progress, ask questions, tell us what you did over the holidays, or whatever. This is a learning community! So teach, learn, commune.
One thing I'm working on is getting together a series of small projects that I can post to the group so we can all practice coding actual work. It might be a small application, a web site component, or whatever, but the idea is to offer real-world projects that a group member (or group of members) can claim and take on. As they work, they can consult the group and eventually present their results. Some of these projects may include a barter component (e.g., build a program for an accountant and get your taxes done in exchange), so it won't be entirely academic. If you know of anyone who has a project needing doing, let me know! I hope to start posting these over the next month or so.
Okay, that's all for now. Happy coding!
