I made it through 4 and 5 tonight... not sure I understand everything I
did... but made it.

Reading ahead before you do the chapters was helpful.

I won't be there tomorrow, and in all likelihood, you guys will be at
RoseTech tomorrow, just a few doors down from Return Path. Jason will
supply the details.

Hi everyone,

Just so we can try to keep us all within the same ballpark of each other, I'm wondering how far everyone has gotten in the book so far. Please take a second to respond to this poll:

We will indeed be meeting tonight at 7pm -- location details to come.

Thanks!
Julie

Hi all,

We can have the Python meeting at Rose Tech, but the door situation isn't great.  The front door gets locked at 5, so I have to come down to get each one of you. So, I will be standing at the door from 6:50-7:10.  Please arrive in that time period!  Thanks.

I'm not going to be able to make it tonight, but I've made it through Chapter 6 and if anyone needs some help, feel free to shoot me an IM.

Also, for the people that were having trouble getting the color coding on the IDLE editor on a Mac after saving, you can get it to work by saving all your files (or renaming all your files) with a .py extension.  It seems that just saving it without the extension, IDLE treats as a text file, but with the .py extension, the color coding comes up even after saving.

Thanks Jason for hosting. I can't make it tonight, sadly.

I was planning to come out, but if I'm the only one I have no problem working solo. Would it be better to push until next week?

I was planning to be there. I'm okay with either meeting or waiting until next week if that's the preference. Jason, since you're hosting, why don't you make the call.

Julie

It looks like it would just be the three of us, so lets put this off until next week.  See you then.

Okay, thanks everyone.

Based on the poll earlier today, we're all over the map in terms of how many chapters we've gotten through. By next week, everyone should definitely be through Chapter 5 if at all possible. Those working on their own tonight will probably get through Chapter 6, and then through Chapter 7 at some point during the week before our next meeting. Let's plan to pick up at the beginning of Chapter 8 all together next week.

Sound good?

If you're ahead of the group, I'm not going to ask you to hang back (don't want to dampen the fire!), but I do think the group benefits most by being together when everyone is working through similar issues. So you may wish to consider that when planning your time. :)

Cheers,

Chris McAleenan
