We’re pleased to announce the immediate availability of the LR GoOpen node as a new source for consuming high-quality Open Educational Resources.

GoOpen Sandbox: http://goopen.sandbox.learningregistry.net

The main features distinguishing the GoOpen node from the public LR nodes (node01 and node02):
  • moderated registration process for publisher accounts
  • resource metadata only, using payload schema of LRMI/schema.org/JSON-LD format.
  • Metadata validation on publish, requiring specific fields: url, name, description, accessRights, and publisher. We will release the json validator file when publishing is enabled so the community can use it as a reference. Additional fields will be added over time.
  • the initial set of resources on the node numbers about 96k, culled from the best metadata on the public nodes, plus some new additions see below)

Unlike the public nodes, the GoOpen production node will have a curated registration process for publishers. That registration process has not been finalized, so accounts for publishers are not yet available. We will notify everyone when the process is live. It should also be noted that the GoOpen Sandbox may not be completely stable over the new few weeks as we test schema validation and registration changes.

As part of the launch of this node, we’re also pleased to announce resource contributions from the following organizations:
  • TES Global - approximately 1000 records, sample
  • Khan Academy - approximately 3000 records, sample
  • the National Archives’ DocsTeach - approximately 100 records, sample

We have more partners that will be publishing soon, but we wanted to get this announcement out. More information on the new GoOpen node will be released in the near future. Thanks. … .joe

Hi Joe,

We are glad to see this recent development. We have added support for the learning registry to Tuktu (https://github.com/ZettaDataNet/Tuktu) and use it to harvest the goopen node and to systematically check record links.  We found 15194 broken links.  If you would like a list of them, we will be glad to share.

Also, we have another observation, we did not find the three new collections you mentioned.  Can you help us with that?

Best,

David

Publishing to GoOpen is currently not self-service. We're working on a self-service publish authentication system - should be ready in 1-2 weeks. At that point, anyone can sign up to publish. There is some approval workflow for new publishers, but just to ensure that metadata quality is maintained (which has been a complaint about the existing LR metadata!).

Another very useful initiative!

One question. All double quotes in Khan Academy payloads are (strangely) backslash escaped. Is this intentional?

Thank you,

Renato
