 Dear Friends

'concerned Australians' are sending two Aboriginal representatives Rosalie Kunoth-Monks OAM & Rev. Dr. Djiniyini Gondarra OAM, two highly respected NT elders to Geneva in a little over one week.

They will present to the United Nations a comprehensive (shadow) report, Loss of Rights ? the Despair of Aboriginal Communities in the NT.

The attachment follows on from the letter of a week or so ago.  It calls for your help once again. This time in contacting UN CERD committee members to ask them to read this new report and ask them to make a little extra time to meet with Rosalie and Djiniyini.

Gabriella, Human Rights Officer and Secretary of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination will forward your letter/s on (refer attachment). If you would rather send to other CERD members the list is at http://www2.ohchr.org/english/bodies/cerd/members.htm

Thank you in advance to anyone who is able to help. We have really valued your ongoing help. A sample for news bulletin is below.

Please feel free to pass on this request to anyone within your networks who might also be able to assist in writing.

Warm regards and?THANKYOU"

Georgina Gartland (03 98747595) ?concerned Australians?

Aboriginal Justice and Appeals to the UN

You have a chance to help make a difference by using a little of your time and voice to write to members of the Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) at the UN to encourage them to listen to respected Aboriginal elders who will be attending a meeting where countries, including Australia, are due to make reports on their progress in upholding international conventions that we are signatories to. The Aboriginal elders will be presenting a report from their 'on the ground' perspective. If you wish to read more about how people are feeling in the NT communities This Is What We Said: Australian Aboriginal People give their views on the Northern Territory Intervention (Feb 2010), is available . Any queries ring Pia 03 98873096 or Georgina 03 98747595.  We would also like to "THANKYOU" for your concern & commitment in this, both past and anticipated. You may be interested in this year's Wentworth lecture at http://www.aiatsis.gov.au/events/wentworth.html#kirby. The Hon Michael Kirby AC CMG, former Justice of the High Court of Australia on: Friday 11th June 2010, National Library of Australia, Canberra gave  quite some time to This Is What We Said: Australian Aboriginal People give their views on the Northern Territory Intervention. (?concerned Australians' East Melb), Feb 2010. Michael speaks on several fronts in the latter part particularly on the NT Intervention.   Book order form attached, we are printing another one thousand copies and would appreciate your help in as wide a distribution as possible to facilitate continued advocacy in this area.
