Right now I'm in the U.S., which has turned out to be unwise as this
region has been paralysed by a blizzard, causing power outages,
Internet disruptions, and other inconveniences. And we're to have up
to another foot (30cm) of snow drop on us starting tomorrow....
Still, all those issues aside, I'm looking forward to working with all
of you throughout the session!
All the best,
-=Steve=-
Dear All,
Last but not least, most know me already in one or another form, from this or other networks, but to complete the series of introductions by your facilitators, I am Patricia Schlicht. Together with Steve and Wayne, I am the facilitator of this workshop.
I have been facilitating WikiEducator Learning4Content online training workshops for some time now and it has been the most exciting journey of my life. Not only did I personally learn so much, it has been a very uplifting and empowering experience to see, how one country after another came on board and is using WikiEducator today in their daily lives. It doesn’t stop to amaze me. Just a couple of weeks ago, for instance, I heard that the Government of India is using WikiEducator for staff development.
In addition, I have also been the Learning4Content Coordinator under Wayne's leadership.
WikiEduator has meanwhile become its own entity and has found its new home under the Open Education Resource Foundation (OERF), formally launched on September 17, 2009 at the International Centre for Open Education.
I am happy that so many Caribbean Educators came together in this venture and I hope that this is the start of wonderful collaborations and new developments.
Warm wishes,
Patricia
Hi Everyone,
Warm greetings from New Zealand.
My name is Wayne Mackintosh and I had the privilege of starting WikiEducator back in Feb 2006. WikiEducator is by far the most rewarding project of my career! My faith in education has been restored seeing thousands of educators around the world returning to the core educational values of sharing knowledge freely :-)
This online workshop marks an important milestone for WikiEducator -- namely the introduction of Rich Text Editing (RTE) / or WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) editing.
Now educators around the world can have the best of two worlds:
• An easy to use rich editing interface which means that Newbies will not have to struggle with remembering wiki syntax or
• Standard wiki editing using "wiki syntax" for those educators who what to learn how to edit in other Mediawiki projects like Wikipedia or users who want to learn how to use some of the more powerful features of the Mediawiki software.
In this workshop we will provide links to resources for both editing approaches (WYSIWYG or standard wiki editing).
Have fun and feel free to post any questions you may have on this list.
Great to meet you all online!
Cheers
Wayne
