Dear Friends,

Please introduce yourself to our group here. Tell us who you are,
where you are from, what you are doing and how you came to
WikiEducator. What are you hoping to get out of this free training
opportunity and what are you planning to do with the newly gained
knowledge.

Warm wishes,
Patricia and Nellie

Hi
I'm Jane. This is a wonderful project which is inspiring in its
ambitions and I'm very happy to be a part of it. I'm a straggler from
the last workshop - so I will be popping in and out to cover those
parts I may have missed. Have fun!

Good to see you here again. You are welcome to come in as many times as you need to ask any question. Wiki Technology is not difficult to learn but there are many facets and even the so-called experts still learn sthg new every day. Welcome again.

Warm wishes,

Dear Corrina,

Welcome to WikiEducator. If you are referring to New Zealand's Ministry
of Education Plans for Teacher Education, you are right, this is very
exciting news and from what I can see, it has gained momentum quickly
and discussions are very active. New Zealand has been ahead of the game
for some time when it comes to the Open Source Movement and we can watch
and learn.

Looking forward to your contributions.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Mary Lou, and I'm the director of the OpenCourseWare
Consortium. This is a global group of universities and institutions
who are supporting the international open educational resource
movement through creating and promoting free and open educational
materials, available to anyone on the web. In former professional
lives, I was involved in educational programming in many African
countries, and training for intercultural understanding, both of which
remain dear to me. I'm very supportive of openness and sharing, from
local to global levels, and am looking forward to more involvement in
WikiEducator and similar pursuits.

Glad to be part of this interesting group!

Hello everyone,

My name is Alexandra, I am an EFL teacher in Madeira, Portugal. Last
year I started using blogs with my students, now I think we are ready
for a "level up" and I want to learn how to use wikis, so I can teach
them how to make the most of the collaborative aspect of it. I heard
of wikieducator through a blog post from one of your past attendees.
Unfortunately, I didn't bookmark the post, so I don't remember who it
was. But whoever it was has my deepest appreciation because it led me
to you. So here I am, eager to learn and contribute in whatever way I
can. :)

Hi there

I am Janet Bianchini from Italy and this is my second course with WikiEducator.  I enjoyed the last workshop very much and learned a lot.  I am doing the course again to review the new knowledge I learned and to familiarise myself  even more with this wiki format.

I am very keen to share experiences and ideas with you all and I look forward to sharing with you on this great adventure that is WikiEducator...

I love Web 2.0 tools and am interested in how to integrate technology into teaching in general. I don't have a regular class at the moment but I usually teach adults English as a Foreign Lnguage and I do teacher training refresher courses for teachers of English from around the world.

Thanks

Yes, I need more practice with images too and just want to be confident in the basics so that I can start using it. I'm not sure what Kaltura is. Did I miss something? Using wikis is straightforward but, for me, I need to use what I learn otherwise it's gone.

being a full-time mother. As an Argentinian living in NZ, I'm quite
familiar with the term "diversity" and happy to join such a
"diversity" of people, from different countries, cultures and
backgrounds. I'm very interested in knowing and have a better
understanding of this revolutionary project.

Dear Alan
Welcome to WikiEducator, glad you could join our Learning4Content
training workshop on WikiEducator. It is nice to have an advocate of the
Open Software movement with us. I just signed The Cape Town Declaration
for Open Education this last week, as have many members of our
WikiEducator family:

http://wikieducator.org/Cape_Town_Open_Education_Declaration/WE_Sign_Up

You will find many likeminded teachers in our community who will be able
to assist, now and in the future as our community meanwhile has almost
11,000 members

Warm wishes,
Patricia

Dear Nora,

A warm welcome to you, diversity is definitely something that fits
WikiEducator. This course along has meanwhile 100 students in 28
countries, and this doesn't stop to amaze me. I learn something new
every time we hold a training and not only there of course which makes
the work really interesting and fun.

Open Education and the development of open educational content is an
important issue that has only come around in our world in the last
approx. 10 years, but it is gaining strength and fulfills a need that is
being pursued with passion everywhere at this time, so come on board and
think broadly what you could contribute and share with the world that
would make a difference in somebody's life when you develop it.

I would like everybody to think about this, as this will be part of your
Learning contract. If you need a few days to gain a better perspective
this is perfectly acceptable, take your time. I am sure you will find
just the right study guide, handout, lesson plan, programme or project
that you would like to share with our WikiEducator family.

Warm wishes,
Patricia

Hi Jane,

Kaltura is an open source software video editing tool that can be used on WikiEducator.

You said it exactly, the more one uses the wiki, the better you get at it. Use your user page sandbox to practice and upload real content, as with that, the challenges will arise, you will learn to master beautifully.

Warm wishes,

Patricia

Dear Kimani

The training is taking place during working days, Monday to Friday, and you can work at your own pace. Try not to get too far ahead as it is better you work through the tutorials with everybody to support you. Congratulations in advance to you and your future wife, you are at the start a whole new life together and I know lots of preparation is going on. Maybe not the most ideal time to take a course.

If you feel that both events coincide, feel free to sign up for the next course at the end of October, which might be better suitable for you.

Hello Everyone,
I am Curlin from Montego Bay, Jamaica, and i work as a senior
university administrator, and lecturer. I am thrilled to participate
in an opportunity such as this, and excited about the possibilities
that tools such as wikis promise, and the potential impact on the
pedagogical input and quality of online delivery. I expect that this
workshop will provide me with a tool that enhances the delivery of
courses in an online environment, and better enable me to assist
professionals in preparing for similar roles. I look forward to the
sharing and learning from my more capable group members, and soon-to-

Kind regards,

Hi, my name is Jo Fothergill and I recently completed the eL4C29
workshop. I've dabbled in wikis for several years and am now getting
into wiki work in a big way.

I teach at Raumati Beach School, on the Kapiti Coast of New Zealand.
I'm teaching Year 3&4 (7-9 year olds) and running an eLearning
environment in my classroom. Approximately 70-80% of the work is
presented online via a wiki and I'm encouraging self-management of
learning.

I'm constantly learning and striving to improve my knowledge of Web2.0
and OER and see how it fits into my many varied roles I take as part
of my teaching profession. I'm looking forward to eL4C30 and learning
more about facilitating via WE.

Welcome again. Your message is really inspiring. You should also note that India has launched its own WikiEducator chapter in November last year.

Have a look here, you already have many WikiNeighbours, so would fit right in: http://www.wikieducator.org/India. Get in contact with Dr. Singh, to see how you can get some help for the upcoming eLearning Convention. Maybe you could even have an WikiEducator intro session during this event, if it is not too late to set this up.

Dear Friends,

Apologies for the long post, I promise to do this only on Day 1
(smile!)

First of all, we would like to welcome you to the first day of our
30th Learning4Content online workshop. We are glad you joined us for
this wonderful learning opportunity. It has been an absolutely
pleasure to see how one country after another has adopted WikiEducator
and is busy trying to build its own WikiEducator community.

Feel free to ask questions, we are here to help. You will have the
opportunity to leave us feedback on the main workshop site here:
http://www.wikieducator.org/Learning4Content/Workshops/Online_schedule/eL4C30/Feedback

If you feel more comfortable putting your question in writing, you
can do this here:
http://www.wikieducator.org/Learning4Content/Workshops/Online_schedule/eL4C30/Wiki_questions

We will respond to all of it as we go along.

Instructions were sent out via the Google forum :
http://groups.google.com/group/learning4content-workshops?hl=en&lnk=li

But can also be found on our workshop main page:
http://www.wikieducator.org/Learning4Content/Workshops/Online_schedule/eL4C30/Workshop_schedule#Day_1:_Monday.2C_21_September_2009

I also wanted to take this opportunity to introduce my colleagues to
you as they have kindly offered to assist with the facilitatation of
this course. Thank you, Nellie, Lenva and Jo for coming in to help.

Nellie Deutsch – Israel-Canada, Facilitator

• I am a Canadian (Toronto) residing in Israel. I have been teaching
English as a foreign language to high school and adult learners for
over 30 years. I am interested in collaborating with other teachers
worldwide and do this on
Building Relationship.
• I use technology with my face-to-face classes by blending computer
programs and the Internet.
• I teach English via computer related topics such a MS and other
applications and computer hardware.
• I teach English by involving my high school students in
international collaborative projects

Lenva Shearing, New Zealand – Co-facilitator

I am a deputy principal in a large intermediate school (middle school
or junior high) in Auckland, New Zealand. I am also the facilitator
of a cluster of schools (5) who are on a 3year contract looking at how
ICT can support learning in their schools. I am passionate about
learning and about using ICT for learning in authentic, purposeful
contexts. I have spoken at many conferences and teacher expos. At
the moment I am responsible for the introduction of e-portfolios for
all of our 750 students. At the moment, I am busy writing policy,
developing pedagogy and upskilling teacher and students in this
area.
We have also started a 1:1 laptop scheme at our school, and next year
hope to complete some research into the effects of the student owned
laptop on achievement, attitude and engagement.

Jo Fothergill, New Zealand – Co-facilitator

Kia Ora. My name is Jo Fothergill and I recently completed the eL4C29
workshop. I am a classroom teacher at Raumati Beach School, on the
Kapiti Coast of New Zealand. I teach a lively class of 31 Year 3&4
students (7-9 year olds) and am running an eLearning environment in my
classroom where ~80% of the work is presented online via our class
wiki. As a class we are working on self-management of learning. I'm
constantly learning and striving to improve my knowledge of Web2.0 and
OER.

Patricia Schlicht – Canada, Facilitator/Learning4Content Coordinator.

And as for me, my name is Patricia Schlicht and I have been working
with and for Dr. Wayne Mackintosh, the founder of WikiEducator as
Learning4Content Coordinator on Wikieducator.
I am a grass route practitioner who learned from the bottom up and
have brought my international project management experiences from a
variety of national and international governments and non-government
organisations to the table. Since 2000, I have gained extensive
knowledge in open and distance learning (ODL) and technology-mediated
learning, among many other things I have been actively involved in.

I was introduced to the concept of Free/Libre Open Education in
eLearning in May 2006 through the arrival of Dr. Wayne Mackintosh, the
founder of WikiEducator. eLearning has become my passion and I have
been actively promoting WikiEducator and building capacity in the
global communities, which has been the most rewarding experience of my
professional career so far. I have (co-)facilitated many of our
Learning4Content online training workshops, have been monitoring and
evaluating most of the WikiEducator activities, among the many other
responsibilities I maintain, in an attempt to build a sustainable
global network of WikiEducators.

Looking forward to your contributions. Enjoy the workshop

Warmest,

Hello everyone

Well I must say that I'm persistent. I'm hoping to complete this
course. It's getting somewhat embarassing to keep signing up. I get
to about 5 days and then I get overloaded with everything else. This
time I have a P L A N.

My name is Mireille (said like Me-Ray) I live in Canada. My interest
in completing this course is the following

1. I'm taking an online facilitation course and their web site is on
this wiki
2. I in the midst of writing a number of series - Social Media,
Visual Communication, Learning to Blog, Blogging to Learn and Online
FAciliation and Web Conferencing Tools. (It's a good thing I'm on
sabbatical) I would like to put some of my support material on this
wiki. For this practice I'm going to concentrate on putting resources
for a course I'm auditing Virtual Teacher Certificate
http://www.netspeedlearning.com/interactive/vftc/

My project is going to be on mindmapping and brainstorming. We are
going to use a couple of tools to summarize our course. I thought I
would add a number of resources to complete it.

I think this is the reason why I have been so easily distracted is
becasue I didn't have a project in mind. When I learn something I
need to have a direct purpose so I can apply it.

I hope to learn from all of you and I sincerely hope I can add
something to the conversation

Mireille
Toronto, Canada

Hi Mireille,

Welcome back. Don't feel embarrassed, you have come back not to miss this opportunity, that's the most important thing. It takes some time to become clear for what exactly you should develop on WikiEducator. Browsing on WikiEducator's content page on the main page at http://www.wikieducator.org might help.

Hi everyone,
I'm Nathan Wise, the Project Manager of the DEHub: Innovation in
Distance Education project based at the University of New England in
Armidale, NSW, Australia. Several staff from DEHub have joined the
workshop with a view to improving our wiki practices. I'm relatively
new to wikis and am yet to contribute to the site, but hopefully this
workshop can help me improve my skills to do so.
Cheers,
Nathan

Hi All
I have finally arrived here all the way from GHANA, West Africa. I was
having problems initially
but that has been resolved now. I learned about this coourse through
WikiEducator. I am not
an educator but like to study and read a lot of instructional
materials that come my way.
I come from this part of the world where online education is not so
much the culture in our educational system.
Hopefully soon, I may be in the position to impart knowledge to some
people through online platforms;
how effective I would be if I have successfully gone through this
course! Thanks to WIKI and the facilitators/coordinators.

Please call me Kiki if you can.

Wish us all happy learning and knowledge sharing! I just hope I
haven't arrived so late.

Hi Kiki,

Congratulations! You made it, so a warm welcome to you. While it is true what you say, yYou will be pleased to know that the University of Education in Winneba has a whole Centre offering Open Education course and building them. Ghana has been in the forefront of this new movement and lots of courses have been offered.

For now, we are glad you found your way to us, so enjoy the learning programme and don't hesitate to ask any question you might have.

Warm wishes,
Patricia

Hi Patricia,
Great to learn that from you. I have always known they offer open
education courses at the University of Winneba and now we have the
Kofi Annang center but I probably haven't taken the time to research
and find out...I know they are paid for so I do not put them in the
category in which you place it. Now that you have mentioned it I will
check. This is helpful. I had to learn that 1000's of miles away,
(where you are located. lol) thanks to technology!

been asked to serve as a part-time subject specialist to the Distance
Education Unit of the Ministry. I was introduced to WikiEducator by
the Head of the Unit. I hope to enrich my contribution to Geography in
the Distance Education programme through the skills I will acquire in
the workshop. My computer skills are primitive and I welcome the
opportunity to improve them.

Best wishes,

Aah!, Thank you Patricia, I am now able to post. I guess I finally
found the right link.

Hi everyone, I am really pleased to be part of this group. I am Cherry
Stewart. I am a Research Fellow for DEHub: Innovations in Distance
Education. This is a new project under the guidance of
Belinda Tynan at the University of New England in Armidale NSW,
Australia.

I have recently joined the group after working with UNE for two years
as an educational designer for online learning programs in the School
of Education and School of Health.

My colleagues and I from DEHub are particularly interested in
developing the Australian link to Wikieducator and
we are keen to work collaboratively with everyone in this iteration of
the L4C.

While my experience with wikis is relatively new, I am very much
looking forward to interacting with everyone and learning to use this
wiki.

Cheers

Hi Brian,
I am keen to learn more about you training in Uganda. I have been
working with the educators in the School of Health (nurses) to create
blended learning opportunities for nurses, both pre-service and to
upgrade their qualifications. It will be very good to hear how you are
using open source software in your activities. We have been piloting
the Sakai system for our work.

Cheers

Hi Corina,

Where abouts in Ireland are you located? My husband and I spent a
wonderful year in Northern Ireland as exchange teachers back in 1977.
We loved going to Ireland, it is such a beautiful, green and peaceful
country. We were located in Belfast area at the time and welcome the
opportunity to go camping in the rural spots south of the border!

I look forward to future exchanges during this program.

My word Mary Lou, How fortunate to have someone deeply involved in
OCW. Just this week Michael Korcuska from the Sakai Foundation visited
UNE to share his knowledge of open education and the various movements
to open up all sorts of related activities. I think his presentation
gave lots to think about for several of our staff.

Look forward to networking with you.

forward to collaborating to make this happen.
I know this has been in the works for some time, so I am extremely happy
to see it coming to light.

Warm wishes,
Patricia

Dear Patricia,
I am so busy at school at present that when I come home all I can do is sleep.
Please take me off the roll as I am simply not finding the time, nor the energy to do this course at present. Would love to do it in the near future though as circumstances allow. Thank you.
Kind regards,

Claudia Marie
