Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that ADFOCS’26 will take place on August 10-14, 2026! ADFOCS is a five-day summer school hosted annually by MPI-Informatics in Saarbrücken, Germany. This year’s edition will address the following question:

What foundational theoretical knowledge should a machine learning researcher have?

The school is aimed at early-career researchers, including masters/Ph.D students and postdocs. It is also suitable for attendees with no prior background in machine learning.

This year’s speakers are leading experts in theoretical computer science and machine learning theory:

  • Kasper Green Larsen (Aarhus University)
Topic: Theoretical Foundations of Machine Learning
  • Ankur Moitra (MIT / IAS)
Topic: Theory for Large Language Models?
  • David Woodruff (CMU / Google)
Topic: Using CS Theory Research for Machine Learning, and Using Machine Learning for CS Theory Research

The program will also include a poster session and other opportunities for networking and discussion.
