Hi Moms !

Just thought I'd share the summer workshops schedule that Pomegranate is organising for the schools that have holidays in April/May, to give you an idea of what kind of workshops they do. For our holiday period - June/July - they have had workshops in the past for IB school kids, but need a minimum quorum of at least 10 kids for the duration of the workshop(s). So if any of you moms are interested and can organize a minimum of 10 kids (dont have to all be from our class/school) you can reach out to Pomegranate and they may be able to come up with something good.....

Regards
Deepa

P.S. They have an evening batch of of 'Shakes Peers In The Park' in the April- May schedule for which some IB schools children have started signing up incase you are interested...

POMEGRANATES IN SUMMER!

 2013

Come April, and we bring to you our very own Pomegranate Summer: A month full of revolutionary new workshops for children that promise to impel your imagination, compel your curiosity and propel your personality to pull off a creative coup!

Pomegranate will lead the children of Mumbai up the garden path, down a walk in the park, and through the patli gullies of the city’s history. Together, children will try their hand at designing and sculpting art for public spaces, rouse poor Shakespeare from his midsummer dreams and storm the ancient bylanes of Mumbai armed with determination and a camera.

Look below and no further for The Pomegranate Summer Manifesto:

Help, It’s Alive!

A workshop in story, sculpture and public space

Something that was never there is missing. Something that was never found is lost. Something that never lived is now alive. And it is here that it shall be made. Help, It’s Alive! is a workshop where children will conceptualise, sculpt and construct those quirky objects and creatures that lurk about in our urban spaces.

Using their imagination and led into the process with exciting stories, children will sculpt a variety of materials ranging from papier mache to clay to scrap to soft wire. Participants will create sculptures, installations and 3-D artworks under the guidance of artist Saumya Ananthakrishna. They will then visit a public place close by and populate this space with their wacky works and lead us on a merry treasure hunt with clues they leave behind for us to find.

The module focuses on a variety of sculptural materials, gets children to ideate and visualize and finally see their works in a public space where passersby actually react to their works.

Mumbai.Doc

Confronted with its sprawling skyline, traffic snarls and ‘happening’ parties, it is hard to imagine Mumbai beyond its main roads: a serene sisterhood of islands, a quiet fishing village, a bustling port, a happy hunting ground for Malabar pirates, a simmering cauldron of nationalistic activism. The face of Mumbai conceals more than it reveals.
Not anymore. Mumbai.Doc is a documentary filmmaking workshop where the children show us what Mumbai means to them. At this workshop, children select and explore an area of Mumbai – absorbing its charm, meeting its residents, investigating its history, uncovering its secrets – and learning the art of film making in the process.

From start to finish, the children will conceptualise their documentary, conduct their own research, shoot their film and edit their footage. The end result will be a film that not only expresses their love for their city, but their creative experiments in cinema. The workshop will be conducted by Ragini Singh Khushwaha and Zahra Gabuji, Pomegranate film facilitators who work through the year teaching film making and hosting film clubs at some of Mumbai’s leading international schools.

In November 2011 Pomegranate’s films by children (one live action and one animation) were selected and screened in the Little Directors International competition category at the 17thInternational Childrens Film Festival of India, Hyderabad, where the makers of these films were all invited as child delegates.

Shakes’ Peers in the Park!

Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ meets Megamind (or Kung Fu Panda or The Wimpy Kid or...) in this crazy workshop. Led by theatre director, scriptwriter and artist Irawati Karnik and creative writing facilitator Kruti Suba, Shake’s Peers in The Park will see children invade one of the bard’s most playful works with creative ideas of their own – be it incorporating their favourite characters from movies or books right from Harry Potter to Percy Jackson and Captain Underpants, or weaving their own plots into the story to create “confusion worse confounded”!

All the world’s a stage at this workshop, where children will rescript Shakespeare’s plays and recast them with their own favourite characters, build their own props, assemble their own costumes and “strut and fret their hour upon the stage” – not in a theatre, no – but in a park, for all to see. Besieged by Harry Potters, Bone and Captain Underpants, poor Will Shakes will be left clutching his hair, crying “Hell is empty and all the devils are here!”

The workshop module includes theatre activities, ideation, scripting, creating props and costumes and finally enacting the play at a park nearby.

The enactment will be documented on video and the children each will have a video documentation and their very own rewritten Shakespeare script to add to their portfolio of redefining work that they create mid summer!

Ages : 9-13yrs

Dates : 22 April – 2 May (excluding Sundays - 10 day module)

Timings: 4 30 pm - 6 30 pm

Fees: Rs 5500 including all materials
