Hello Guys!

I've successfully installed the plugin https://github.com/garemoko/moodle-mod_tincanlaunch by Andrew Downes. Now I can view my Moodle course modules in iPad via Articulate Mobile Player. Thanks to Andrew :)

The thing here is the Moodle Activity Completion Tracking is not working anymore because TIN CAN needs LRS to work properly. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

My question is... Can I install Learning Locker in Moodle to be my LRS to run the completion tracking?

Need your suggestions.

Please help.

Thank you in advance.

Best Regards,
Erwin

You wouldn't install it 'in' Moodle per se Erwin, but you can certainly install it somewhere and track back to it.

Hello Ben,

Thank you for your reply.

Okay. I'll take your advise. But can you recommend any free LRS platform or plug in that we can use for Moodle?

I hope you can advise.

Hey Erwin,

Check this out:
https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-35433

The Moodle guys are already working on the integration. We will probably see it in one of the upcoming patches ;)

Cheers,
Cristian

Hi Erwin!

My plugin will absolutely work with learning locker, or indeed any Tin Can compliant LRS.

You can use it to launch content and track the data back to Learning Locker as Ben explained.

The catch is that in it's current state, the plugin isn't especially secure and it's vulnerable to a hacker accessing your LRS. Security can be significantly improved relatively easily, but this requires some development work both on the plugin and the LRS.

In terms of an LRS within Moodle and that tracker item, I'm not aware of anybody working on this at present so I wouldn't hold your breath on that coming any time soon.

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for this very informative details regarding your LRS (Learning Locker).

It's very important to know that using an external LRS to be used in tracking in Moodle is not safe and really vulnerable to hackers.

So I conclude, We can use/set an external LRS to be use for tracking in our Moodle server, but we need to improve/develop security.
Setting up our own LRS in our Moodle will really take a lot of time to develop and support are still not available on the net.

Thanks Andrew for your guidance.

We are looking forward for more of your plugins to be share on the eLearning world. Hopefully your own LMS platform :).

Best Regards,
Erwin

Andrew,

I'm looking into using xAPI with Moodle and wanted to know what shape its in right now. We have built an angularjs (using ionic/cordova) app, for iphone and android, using DreamFactory to track interactions over a REST api. We also use DreamFactory for authentication and user management. Now we need reporting, and evaluation tracking and realised, we need to start using an LMS to report on all this, and use xAPI. The client currently does not use moodle, so we are open to using any form of LMS or LRS combination. We also want to be able to construct quizzes inside our app, that mirrors a quiz inside moodle.

Hi, thanks for your message.

We are currently working on a Moodle plugin with the help of our partners (The Charity Learning Consortium). This work is available on Github.

Kind regards,
Ryan

Ryan,

Does that plugin collect external xAPI data also? For reporting.

Ideally we want to be able to log xAPI data, and also combine

Sorry, hit enter by mistake.

We want to be able to collect xAPI data for reporting.

As stated on Github, the plugin "Emits events from the Moodle Logstore as xAPI statements", hence it only sends statements to the LRS, it does not attempt to retrieve any data (at the moment). If you'd like to analyse data in the LRS you'd need to use Learning Locker's APIs to query the data and bring it back to Moodle.

Kind regards,
Ryan
