I'm installing the open source chef server on a centos 6.5 machine running in a VM. Everything looks fine until I run the command 'chef-server-ctl test' which gives the following result:

[root@chefserver ~]# chef-server-ctl test

The source :rubygems is deprecated because HTTP requests are insecure.

Please change your source to 'https://rubygems.org' if possible, or 'http://rubygems.org' if not.

Configuring logging...

Creating platform...

/opt/chef-server/embedded/lib/ruby/1.9.1/uri/common.rb:146:in `split': bad URI(absolute but no path): https:// (URI::InvalidURIError)

from /opt/chef-server/embedded/lib/ruby/1.9.1/uri/common.rb:211:in `parse'

from /opt/chef-server/embedded/lib/ruby/1.9.1/uri/common.rb:747:in `parse'

from /opt/chef-server/embedded/service/chef-pedant/lib/pedant.rb:58:in `setup'

from ./bin/chef-pedant:26:in `<main>'

Also the chef workstation can't connect to the server:

Dakota:~/chef-repo$ knife client list

ERROR: Connection refused connecting to https://chefserver.tauker.net/clients, retry 1/5

ERROR: Connection refused connecting to https://chefserver.tauker.net/clients, retry 2/5

ERROR: Connection refused connecting to https://chefserver.tauker.net/clients, retry 3/5

ERROR: Connection refused connecting to https://chefserver.tauker.net/clients, retry 5/5

ERROR: Network Error: Connection refused - Connection refused connecting to https://chefserver.tauker.net/clients, giving up

Check your knife configuration and network settings

My PATH variable on the server is as follows:

[root@chefserver ~]# echo $PATH

/opt/chef-server/embedded/bin:/usr/lib64/qt-3.3/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/root/bin

so ruby should be in the path. Anyone knows what the test is complaining about when it is trying to create the platform and how to fix that?

Thanks
Andre

This looks like your hostname might not be resolvable.  Check out this page in the docs for some more info on how to fix this:
