Good morning Transitional Math team,

Good job guys. Here is my feedback to your draft:
  • Module 2:
    • Include at least one overarching understanding. From McTighe, Overarching understandings point beyond the specifics of a unit to the larger, transferable ideas that spiral throughout the curriculum. Here are some examples:
      • Mathematics allows us to see patterns that might have remained unseen.
      • Sometimes the “correct” mathematical answer is not the best solution to “real-world” problems.
    • Include at least one overarching understanding. From McTigheOverarching essential questions point beyond the particulars of a unit to the larger, transferable ideas and enduring understandings. They recur fruitfully across the grades, spiraling throughout the curriculum to provide conceptual through lines. Effective overarching essential questions are broad and general in nature and lead to overarching understandings. Here are some examples:
      • What are the patterns that we have discovered?
      • When is the “correct” answer not the best solution?
    • Tip: The mathematical practices covered in this module may help you create the overarching understandings and essential questions.
  • Module 3:
    • The single topical understanding for the module is fits better in the acquisition section (knowledge).
    • Try to come up with at least one overarching understanding and essential question (see details above).
    • Try to come up with at least one overarching understanding and essential question. From McTighe, Topical understandings target the particular insights we want students to attain within a unit of study. Topical understandings are less likely to transfer to other topics. Here are some examples:
      • You can use formulas to find the volume of a cone, cylinder and sphere.
      • How do you find the volume of a cone, cylinder and sphere?
  • Module 4:
    • Looks good!
  • Module 5
    • Great job on this module!

Good morning Transitional Math group,

Good job guys! Here are some overall feedback and comments that may help:
  • Math vocabulary words: It may help to make a bullet list of important vocab words in the Students will know... section. It can serve as a checklist for math teachers and students.
  • I like your essential questions, they are open-ended and thought-provoking.
  • For module 3, I suggest putting the concept of volume of a solid in the understandings section and draft a corresponding essential question. It may help our students visualize the concept of volume of a solid before the all the computations come into play. Something like, Volume is the amount of space that a substance or object occupies, or that is enclosed within a container(From Wikipedia). It is needed in solving problems related to space. The essential question may look like this: What is volume of a solid and why is it important?
