Original More “literal” version
(with obvious metric problems)
More “brushed” version
(breaking away from the original, at times, for the sake of metric)
From Delhi to Goa

Gautam Gurudas
Walked in the sand
With bucket and spade
Held tight in his hand

All of a sudden
He jumped in the air;
That made all the people
Turn around and stare.

He giggled and laughed
He squiggled his toes
He opened his mouth
He blew from his nose

Gautam Gurudas
Fell flat in the sand
His bucket and spade
Struck up a band!

All the people around
They gave him a hand
But nobody knew
As the commotion arose
That a tiny crab
Was tickling his toes!

Gautam Gurudas
Was from Delhi you see
So he was new to Goa
The sand and the sea.
De Deli a Goa

Gautam Gurudas
Caminhava na areia
De balde e pá
Seguros na mão

Assim de repente
Deu um salto no ar
Que fez toda a gente
Voltar-se e olhar

Dava finas risadas
Torcia os dedos dos pés
Abria a boca
Fungava o nariz

Gautam Gurudas
Caiu redondo na areia
O balde e a pá
-- que grande chinfrineira!

Todos em volta
Lhe deram a mão
Mas ninguém sabia
No erguer da confusão
Que um pequeno caranguejo
Lhe fazia cócegas nos dedos dos pés!

Gautam Gurudas
vinha de Delhi – já vês!
Não conhecia Goa
Nem a areia, nem o mar.
De Deli a Goa

Gautam Gurudas
Caminhava na areia
De balde e pá
Bem firmes nas mãos.

Assim, de repente,
Deu um salto no ar
Que fez toda a gente
Voltar-se e olhar

Dobrava risadas
Torcia os dedos e os pés
Abria a boca
Fungava o nariz

Gautam Gurudas
Deu um tombo na areia
O balde e a pá
-- que grande chinfrineira!

Todos em volta
Lhe deram a mão
Mas ninguém notou
Na grande confusão
Que um caranguejito
Lhe mordiscava os pés!

Gautam Gurudas
vinha de Delhi – já vês!
Não conhecia Goa
Nem a areia, nem o mar.

Fred,
I would:

He jumped (up) in the air

He squiggled his toes    Torcia os dedos dos pés

Cheers,
JP
