The bee is an essential factor in the fructification of one hundred thousand species of plants, including all trees bearing pitted fruits, and numerous others, in addition to the honey it produces. Without the sting to protect its honey and its hive, the bee could not exist; and the world would be deprived of one hundred thousand benefits."
