 "The heavy watermelon is protected by a thick, pulpy, colorless rind; but the outside of the rind is smooth, colored deep-green to attract eaters, and is waterproof. The meat of the melon is conveniently red, to be thus distinguished from the inedible rind. The fruits which men find on trees and on the ground are infinitely more complicated and purposeful than any man-made mechanism."
