Hello everybody,

I want to bring ielm to your minds, Interactive Emacs Lisp Mode - the
often forgotten. It gives you a kind of a REPL, and thus a bit more of
a Lisp feeling than C-x e.

Kind regards, a.

Alux

I looked into the Interactive Emacs Lisp Mode when I was working out
how to write the first lessons.

I considered IELM versus *scratch* and I plonked for *scratch* because
it was less work to get to (+ 1 2) that way.

The general thrust of the book is just a series of simple steps
consisting of working code going from starting Emacs upto a major
mode. Along the road I think we will need to add additional bits (in
the way that I have stuck in a section called 'Best Practice' in
Section 4.

I was thinking that IELM might be suitable for an Advanced Stuff -
mebbies after lesson 2-5?

Hello Gordon,

I tend to agree by now. Especially after I learned about C-j in
*scratch* yesterday (from your text). In that whay it gets enough REPL
flavour to start.
(I only used C-x e until then.)

Kind regards, a.
