Sudarshana devi dasi
Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.
We see that everywhere people fight. Nations fight against each other. There are fights between states, cities or castes. People fight with their neighbours and what to speak of fight within the family. Seeing all these fights, we can be completely convinced that it is Kali yiga now - age of quarrel. Srila Prabhupada says in one of the classes - “It is called Kali-yuga. Kali-yuga means the age of quarrel and misunderstanding. This is the age. For nothing there is misunderstanding and quarrel and fight and war.” We see how people fight tooth and nail - just for nothing. Srila Prabhupada in his lecture on BG 1.1 verse very nicely explains the weed like qualities which are present in us, which provokes us to fight with others.
dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca
dharma-kṣetre kuru-kṣetre
samavetā yuyutsavaḥ
māmakāḥ pāṇḍavāś caiva
kim akurvata sañjaya
In the above verse, “māmakāḥ” is translated as “my sons”. So these words “I” “my” and "mine" appear from our mouth when we are envious or jealous of others. Although the Pandavas were the rightful heirs, influenced by the lower modes, not caring for them, Kauravas were not allowing them to enjoy the righftul share of kingdom.
In his wonderful class on verse 1.1 Srila Prabhupada says, "Dhṛtarāṣṭra wanted that "Actually, this is my kingdom. Now, somehow or other, I could not get it. Now my brother is dead. So if I do not inherit, why not my sons.?" This was the politics. Politics are always there, and enviousness, jealousy. This is the nature of this material world. You cannot avoid it. Spiritual world means just the opposite. There is no politics. There is no jealousy. There is no enviousness. That is spiritual world. And material world means politics, jealousy, diplomacy, enviousness, so many things. This is material world. So even in the heavenly planets, these things are there, politics. Even in animal kingdom these politics are there. This is the nature. Matsaratā. Matsaratā means enviousness. One man is envious of another man. It doesn't matte even they are brothers or family members. Here the family members, Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Pāṇḍu, two brothers, their sons, they were family members, but the enviousness."
Our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj explains the word “Dhrta- rashtra” as one who wanted to grab the nation from Pandavas. Actually - “sub bhumi gopal ki”. Everything belongs to Krishna. We come empty handed to this world and while leaving also we go empty handed. No matter how much ever we are attached to people, place, wealth or any other assset in the material world, we cannot take a single brick along with us. So when we change our mindset from “my” and “mine” and undertsand the reality that everything belongs to Krishna, then there is no question of envy. Instead of being “me-centred”, we should lead Krishna centric life.
His Divine Grace nicely explains in the lecture, “So the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is not for the persons who are envious. Envious. It is a movement to train people how to become not envious. It is very first class scientific movement, yes. Not to become envious. Therefore Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam in the beginning introduces, dharmaḥ projjhita-kaitavo atra [SB 1.1.2]. In this Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, dharma, religious principle, cheating type of religious principle is completely eradicated, thrown away, projjhita. They are kicked out, projjhita.”
Also, when Krishna's presence is there every place becomes dharmakshetra - place where religion or dharma prevails. Kurukshetra means dharma kshetra - Srila Prabhupada explains nicely that apart from historical reference the reason why Kurukshetra is known as dharmakshetra - This is because Krishna was personally present with them. So when we recognise Krishna's presence in everything, in the hearts of people who are favourable to us as well as those who are unfavourable to us, then wherever we go, that is religious place. Although Krishna is oimni-present, we can see Krihna everywhere when we recognise His presence in everyone and everything.
So instead of being, me-cntric, we sbhoud be Krishna centric. Instead if being dhrta-rashtra we should be dhrta-hari - eager to grab the lotus feet of Lord Hari. Then there will be no worry about quarrels,
Thank you very much.
